It’s true. My 412e is surprisingly loud. It’s got this great crisp immediate response which I love.

I fell in love with a 712ce 12 fret at a roadshow at our local dealer.
The roadshow had to go up to Montreal
For awhile so they left a bunch of show guita
In safe keeping. The 712ce had the lutz top
And was really loud.

Just because it's loud doesn't mean it sounds good.

True. And interestingly enough, my 612ce does not seem surprisingly loud to me ... however, it is very responsive, melodic, and well balanced.
That is to say, it sounds very good.

I'm a big fan of the Taylor GC's and was also surprised by their volume. I'm dying to try the 12-string version.

Same here. I hadn't played my 522ce for a week or so. Picked it up last night and was again amazed at its tone, volume and projection. Definitely a keeper.

Ignore it. Every Taylor thread has to have a basher or five, despite "brand wars" being explicitly against the rules.

If you love it, it's the right guitar for you.

I'll join the chorus singing the praises of Taylor x12 12-fretters, particularly for their responsiveness. This means, I've found, that when played with a soft to medium touch, can be as loud or louder than a dread played the same way, since a larger guitar sometimes need a bit more attack to really speak in their preferred voice.

Chiming in... Like many others, I have a GC that seems “more than the sum of its parts.” It’s a 2012, 14-fret, short scale GC-3e. Earlier this year, I picked it up at a great price, needing basic TLC. Well broken in and opened up, it is, with lovely silking and bearclaw figuring for a humble sitka/sapele model.

Following a visit to my local luthier/wizard, the thing sounds so rich and full, I keep on picking it up to practice. Love the string spacing and neck profile for learning some fingerpicking. I wasn’t initially expecting huge volume from this one, but it’s got plenty to overcome my slightly diminished hearing. Also sounds great amplified. It’s a different animal than a dread, and that comparison is not necessarily my priority. But for the cost of a new GS Mini, I’m thrilled with it!

Very cool! I recently bought a 2012 GC3 in excellent condition for about $150 over the cost of a GS Mini and I'm thrilled with mine too...
Enjoy!
