Default Yamaha A5 Series

First post, new guitar player. I started about 4 months ago on a dread Washburn, bought long time ago but never really took seriously. Well, I am getting much better (to my ears ) and have been looking at other guitars. I have since bought an APX600 and an AC3M. The AC3M sounds really good. I am wondering if someone has real experience comparing the A3 series vs the A5 series, mostly interested in the finish, quality, sound, playability....

Thanks in advance

I have an Ac5R, great guitar and for the money it is ridiculously good. I rotate it with my Gibson J 45, Martin GPCPA1 and Taylor 612ce. Incredible craftsmanship, great feel and wonderful tone.

Well, I have never played one because the neck is too narrow for my liking. However, if you like a guitar with a narrower neck, this one deserves a look. Yamaha makes good to great guitars and this solid wood guitar could be a winner.

Thanks for the comments. I hope I did the right thing, I had $2500 and was looking into the Taylor 414-R but after reading and YouTube videos I ordered two Yamaha - AC5M and A5R.

I had a gen 1 AC3R and an A5R. The build quality in the A5 is not THAT much better. The 3s are good. If you want a MIJ guitar, spring for the 5, but in an A/B sound test, I bet you could not tell a difference.

This is just my 2 cents. I think you really did the right thing buying the Yamahas. They are ex. guitars. I bought an A1m probably about a month ago. I liked it so much I decided to get an A3M also. I just received it yesterday and opened it up this morning cause it was so cold yesterday and it is really a great sounding guitar. There is a difference in the 2 guitars. The A3 has just a little more depth to the tone. The A1 seems to be just a little bit brighter. The pick ups in both these guitars are ex. IMO. I honestly think they put the ES 2 to shame. I think I should know cause I used to own a Taylor 414ce. I finally sold it and Bought a Yamaha LL16M. Which is also another great guitar. Trust me, you did the right thing. Enjoy those guitars. I have been playing my A3M most of the day. Make sure you let us all know what you think of them when you get them.
