Agree! A little pricey, but definitely a cut above, and very well designed.

What about a click track vs drum machine?

I have the Trio + and although it works well, I find that the tracks it creates are too complex sounding for the folk, county, bluegrass stuff that I play. I might try the Boss.

The Zoom G1X4 pedal has a rhythm (drum) mode. Lots of different styles and you can adjust bpm. Plus its a fun little pedal with tons of effects, tuner and a looper. $109 it covers a lot of bases. It's not at the level of a Beat Buddy but it is money well spent if you don't already own pedals.

Pro tip - You can use a USB phone charger as a power supply and save $$ not purchasing their separate adaptor.

This ^^^^

These are intended to provide backing for acoustic guitar and have very nice acoustic percussion sounds that are quite good. It also has a very woody sounding metronome, rather than the typical digital tones of most. It has its own speaker so you don't need to connect to an amplifier, and an aux input so you can run a CD or MP3 player through it.

The device is rather limited compared to a drum machine, but to me, that simply makes it easier and more pleasant to use. It is also limited to 3/4, 4/4, and 6/8 time. However, most music we would typically play will fall into those categories anyway.

+1 for the Boss DR-01s!

Especially for acoustic playing. This has been the easiest and most useful for me. Lots of nice features, too. Not quite as capable as the Beat Buddy, but I find it more compatible with what I want with acoustic playing, and the table-top format is much easier to adjust than on the floor.

Its great to jam along with a drum machine, so long as you understand that a metronome is meant to train you to keep steady time... without it.

Different sort of thing all together.
