Might not mean much to USA-ians but our first car was a Vauxhall Viva. We named it ‘Bobby Joe’...

I've never named any of my guitars but I would like to name a few that are special to me. Don't know if I'll ever do it though.

Those are great names (seriously). Blackie makes me think of Clapton's Strat. Ashely fits perfectly.

I sometimes call my LG-2 "Rose" because of the Rosie the Riveter history behind banner era guitars. The name has kind of stuck after several months.

Not long ago, I also noticed another poster -- can't recall who just now -- with a similar guitar and the same name, which is interesting.

Default Does your guitar have a name?

Other than those uttered through the walls by my former apartment-building neighbors when I'd be practicing a little later than expected (most of which were exceedingly colorful, multi-lingual statements notable for their exceptionally-vivid visual imagery), I'd have to say no...

Default Just one

Most of mine haven't told me their names yet. But I've taken to calling my Tacoma EK36C "B.C." because its sinker cedar top came from a tree growing in the era also known as "Before Christ." It's been dated at 600 B.C., or older.

My guitars? No...Never named them.

Which is funny because I often name my cars and motorcycles.
Oh yeah, my dogs and cats, too.
My kids.

Just not my guitars.

No, no names but in true Aussie tradition we tend to shorten everything.
I refer to them like this without even thinking

- The Takamine becomes 'Tak'.
- The Morris B-50 is the 'Morry'.
- Guild stays as is.
- Martin Grand J12-40E Special is just 'Martin 12'.
- Martin JDP II is 'The Ponz'.
- Epiphone EJ-200 is plain 'Epi'.
- Dan Dubowski is the 'Dubowski'.
- Alvarez ABT-60 is the 'barra'.
- Kittis RBJ-195 was built by my nephew-in-law so I use his name and 'Andrew's guitar' is shortened to 'Andrew's'.
- Huss & Dalton MJ Custom is just the Huss & Dalton
- Rickenbacker 4003 is the 'Rick bass' or just the 'Rick'.

That's interesting in that you name cars and motorcycles but not guitars. I don't have a clue what I'd call any of mine but perhaps I'll look at them, think about the history I have with it, and perhaps something will pop up.

Would you trust your kids to name your guitars?

I generally refer to my guitars by their model number or manufacturer: "the 000-42," "the D-18," "the Double O," "the Guild," "the McAlister," and so forth. I know which ones I mean, and the people who are around me when we're playing music usually do, too.

I have enough names of my own, I don't need to inflict them on my guitars....

Jeez, that thing looks like a murder weapon. What did you do, buy it in an auction where they were selling off the items that had been stored in a police evidence room?

Seriously, Woof, do you know the story behind that?

So if you call one by its name, does it answer back?
