Oh my - if we go the Knockando route, I really think the first general meeting of the CoM has to include a wide-ranging tasting session to determine the CoM favorite....so many whiskeys, so little time....

And do not by any means forget that we'll need to designate an official malt brewed beverage for CoM as well.

There will naturally be many contenders for this distinction, necessitating yet more lengthy (and highly scientific) tasting sessions.

The Malt Whiskey Society is having a tasting evening Belfast later in the month.

The 'samples' are society whiskies i.e. not cold filtered, cask strength special selections.

They are great evenings, even with GBH of the ear from She Who Must Be Obeyed for coming home talking like a washing machine.

And where do you personally stand (or stagger) on the issue of McIlroy guitars?

Thank you for your unsolicited recognition of my valour in this.

On the McIlroy front, however, I would require either more courage, or more stupidity, to try and get one past Herself at the moment

She currently has trouble with the necessity for 5 Avalons (incl. 2 customs), a Martin, Vintage red label Yammie and assorted other stringed instruments.

Given that I only live about 45 minutes away from McIlroy, and am smitten with their Walnut/Cedar I would expect that some re alignment of the herd is ineveitable

Current owner of a McIlroy AS25c chimming in here. For those not in the know, that's cedar/walnut, small-bodied, with a cutaway. I went for the smaller, more intimate body size (about 14 and 3/4 inches width at lower bout, tho it's still fairly deep) as most of my other guitars are OMs or OOs. My McIlroy manages to sound rich, smooth, deep, and complex all at the same time.

The AS models are sweet indeed. Haven't played one myself, but have listened to plenty of sound clips. I am very fond of the cedar/walnut combination.

Hmm...I think a big-league trade could be brokered here: 3 non-custom Avalons in exchange for 1 McIlroy and a Lowden to be named later...

It's all I can do, Loki, to avoid Dermot's shop when I'm in Ireland (which is regularly). I couldn't exist in such close proximity as do you without adding another one (or two, or three, or...) of his guitars to my herd. Then again, that makes me think the same has been true of your Avalon fixation! But beware Dermot's A25 model if you truly wish to prolong the inevitable...

Dave -- I've been intrigued about these as well.

Haven't seen or heard one in person. I think there's at least one clip on Dermot's band page, if I'm remembering correctly.

And yeah - I love my A35C and look extremly exited forward to the moment my ASP30 will arrive. Maybe Dermot has a heart and starts a bit sooner to build it so I could get hold of it on my 50th.... But I guess I will need to wait.
