Does that mean that the brighter rosettes will end up looking more washed out in colour in a few years time?

I reached out to Jason and this is what he told me:

"The main reason behind the new colors is twofold, the first is that the dye company that I was using in the early years went out of business. The second reason was that I found that while the dyes don't really change color, the wood that is dyed oxidizes, and gets darker over time, so the bright colors tended to get darker, not because of the dye itself, but because the wood underneath was darkening. I fixed this by changing to lighter woods as the base for the material and using a new, color enhanced dye, but I have also started using darker colors as I feel like they work wit the woods better visually. I still use the bright colors, but it is on a case by case basis."

Nothing better than walnut, IMO. I will never be able to afford a Kostal, so I will be living vicariously through this build thread as the exact guitar I would order. congrats so far......looks AMAZING!

I've just managed to catch up with this thread and wanted to say congratulations Dan, the guitar is already looking very special indeed!

As for the comments regarding the neck on my personal Kostal guitar, it's entirely deliberate and it works for me... that's the beauty of a bespoke build! Admittedly even Jason took some convincing but it worked!

Welcome to the thread!

In many ways, it'll be something of a sister guitar to your #32 (the one that started it all for me) - it's basically the same spec, save for the neck profile/string spacing, and walnut instead of The Tree. Will be interesting to see how they compare.

I was fortunate enough to get in relatively early, when Jason's prices weren't what they are now ... else they'd be off my menu too.

I've been watching from the wings! You're right, in many ways this is something of a sister guitar to 32. However since my guitar was built Jason has refined his voicing technique to a huge degree and the guitars that he is sending over sound like mine did after a year!

I look forward to a comparison session in the to too distant future!

Awesome. If the box is going to sound so great right out of the, er, box, maybe I'll hold off any more recording so I can use the Kostal for the album! (Up to my eyes in nappies at the moment, so it's not like I'm going to be doing much recording over the next month in any case!).

Ebony binding with maple / ebony purfling.

The endgraft has ebony/maple/rosewood/maple/ebony purling and flamed Honduran mahogany (which will tie in nicely with the neck).

Couldn't agree more! Nice tight grain; lovely and consistent silking; seemingly no run-out.
