Default Another 1st world major problem....

My Ernie Ball Power Peg Pro rechargeable winder decided to go to the great Guitar Center in the sky.

I ordered another from Amazon, be here Monday. I like it. So now I'm changing strings with that stupid plastic thingamajig that I haven't used in about 8 or 9 years except to pull pins. Can't complain, the winder lasted a while.

That's why I bought the one that you just replace the batteries. It's at least 10 years old and still going strong (albeit not on the original AA's...lol)

How did we ever get by before electronic tuners and powered string winders?

I know, right? It's a different world from the tuning forks and pitch pipes I started with!

"the great Guitar Center in the sky" - LOL. Ironically, Guitar Center almost joined itself in the great Guitar Center in the sky.

I just had a look on Amazon Canada at the Ernie Ball Power Peg ($25 CAD) and the Pro ($50 CAD). Is there a specific reason you went with the Pro, Barry?

It was the one I had, the one with the rechargeable battery Dru.

Really! I had grandkids before I ever even had one of those manual plastic string wonders. Same with an electronic tuner (an old Korg GT-60X) that I still have. Still use the plastic string winder. It is all I have ever used, or needed.

Still also have a pitch pipe for guitar in one of my guitar cases and one made for banjo in my five-string banjo case.

I used to change a 12 stringer with the plastic winder......

I've paid my dues

I've got a 440 fork in my case, I've had it since '78 or thereabouts. Yeah, we're old

I still have some 8 track tapes in a box somewhere. Too bad I can't play them.

The clarity was amazing......

just bought an Ernie Ball Power Peg winder last month....a real game changer. It makes changing strings almost fun again, and will probably save money on band-aids so it pays for itself.
Wonder how I lived so long without one.

Indeed. And to think our parents were deemed “the greatest generation”. Clearly a mistake given the travails we have had to deal with!!!

I survived the string change. Amazing.

I have a rechargeable Black and Decker mini hand drill with a plastic do Nicky peg head winder that I’ve been using for years. Never fails.

And, yes, I still have calluses from hand winding pegs in the 70’s. I vividly recall the first time I saw a plastic winder in a music store in 1977 ‘78. Game changer.

Am I the only weirdo that doesn't use a winder at all? If so, I'm now going to say my string changes are handcrafted, artisanal changes.
