Mommy Deerest showed up later in the day to pick up her fawn from our daycare and likely baby is hidden somewhere in our bushes. Mind you, on the day before this, Mama Bear and her cub appeared about fifteen feet to my left as I was sitting in the hammock - I got up on the deck pdq and I saved the bird feeder (this time) by making noise (the bears weren't very impressed by my efforts).

The feeder score is: Humans - 2; Bears - 4

Hopefully the doe is aware of the bear We had a sad incident last summer where about 3 or 4 weeks after giving birth to a Fawn, the doe antelope was killed by our local bear, and the Fawn was orphaned (but we think HOPE it became adopted when a small heard of Lopes came through about a week later and we no longer saw the Fawn )

Here is the fawn trying out it's legs

Just keep them away from the beer and snacks They’re so pretty, but they eat anything and everything!

I've had a doe eating in my backyard all spring during the evening hours. This week she brought along a little fawn. Cute as a button! Looked like the little one might have come up to my knees. It wasn't fully stable on its feet, but maneuvering pretty well. They've hung around together for several evenings in a row. I'm enjoying watching them... they come up within about 20 feet of my house.

Yes!
We've observed just before and after giving birth the are particularly bold, eating everything including our container garden, peach trees, and cat food up on the fenced deck. We don't feed them directly but have discovered they love watermelon and cantaloupe rinds--so they are great composting machines.

The deer are much less destructive than my nemesis the "cute" raccoons however---really will never see them as cute again after they destroyed our roof.

Rural life is a great teacher.

We have squirrels, raccoons, and in the fall skunks start to come around. I just completed a couple of "doggie" fences to keep my mini schnauzers away from both sides of my house where the critters like to hang around (our garbage cans on one side, my neighbors on the other).

I'm the single freak that voted "none to speak of" as I have no garden (I figured songbirds in the surrounding trees don't count) but then I recalled the nesting territorial seagull on the roof of my block of flats that keeps raising a riot every time someone enters or exits the building.

I've got a family of Red Shouldered Hawks nesting just behind my cabin, and they've been squawking non-stop for the past week. I suppose it could be worse like a factory or interstate highway....

Great dogs, aren't they?

I found these fence sections made by YardLink at Lowes. Easy to install, no concrete. $30 per panel and about $8 for the posts. You just drive in the spike that holds the post.

I spray painted this one, took two cans. If I need to get access from this side I just pull up one of the posts. The spike that holds the post stays put. On the other side of my house I installed the gate that the company makes.

Interesting video, but I would have liked it if there had been some footage showing the spiders themselves.
