If you have something like an Apple TV type device, there's a free PBS channel, where you can also watch the currently available shows from PBS which.you'd be able watch online from a PC etc. I'm not really I'm fan of modern country, but I like a lot of the old stuff and some bluegrass , folk ....branch-related areas. Honestly, I watch anything Burns does, but when it's music related, I'm especially stoked. |

Was lucky enough to see Ken Burns, Bob Shiefer, Kathy Mattea, and one of the co-producers introduce the documentary at George Washington University last night. They spoke about the documentary, their making of it, showed about 35 minutes of clips, and allowed time for Kathy Mattea to sing 3 songs. It's going to be a great show! I encourage everyone to give it a chance.

Watched it this evening. Enjoyed it. Very interesting. Of course, I’ve long known of Jimmie Rodgers and The Carters, but not having closely followed the broad country genre, I didn’t realize exactly how much of the pioneers they actually were. Great stuff. Very much looking forward to the next episode.

I had to miss Episode 1 because I was at a Vince Gill concert. I'll miss episode 3 for an out of town gig Tuesday night. Hopefully I can catch up after that.

I've got it recording on the DVR now. As much as I'm looking forward to seeing it, I wouldn't skip seeing Vince live for something I could catch later. I've seen Vince a couple times and I'm sure you had a great evening.

I watched the first episode tonight as my wife wanted to watch it. Having read Ralph Peer's biography among numerous books concerning music of the period I'd explain the show as a time line accounting without fully explaining the reasons things happened as they did. Which ends up making the story they tell different than it really was yet all the facts are pretty much correct.

The importance of Ernest (Pop) Stoneman is touched upon. Without him those Bristol sessions wouldn't have taken place.
Timing is everything. |

enjoyed the stories on Jimmie Rodgers, he was quite a character, I wasn't aware he was only 35 when he died. He packed alot of livin' in , in a short time.
I play in a jam group that does a few of his songs, I think they are all from the Blue Yodel series, California Blues, T for Texas, great old songs |

Anyone see Ken Burns’ “Country Music?”
Chapter 1, on PBS last night? Great, as you’d expect. Focused mainly on Carter Family and Jimmy Rodgers. Looking forward to digging into both of those artists on Spotify today!

I watched most of it. Interesting stuff - but not really anything new there for me anyway.
