1953 Martin D-28 (mystery top) w/ OHSC
best D-28 I have played except for a ‘35. second pickguard looks to be from the factory in the 1960's. one pickguard crack. no other cracks. the top is likely Adirondack based on how it looks. If you don’t know about 53 mystery top Martins there’s plenty of info out there. the guitar has been refretted and the neck reset. the action is 3.5/32 and 2/32 with a hair of relief so it plays great. the nut and bridge have been replaced but the bridgplate is original and the inside is squeaky clean. comes with its original Harptone case.
in person the second pickguard is not a big deal - i think it's rather charming. this was a big thing 50-60 years ago. google "Red Smiley". This is a loud and articulate guitar. Superb for all kinds of music. $8500 net to me. Cheapest mystery top D-28 you may find from here on out. pics here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/stwyzwnpu...D5ISUYW0a?dl=0 Last edited by pcf; 04-07-2019 at 07:42 PM. |
