Default Something a little different: Star of the County Down on an Inuk

While technically not an acoustic guitar, the Godin Multiac Inuk Steel Encore is close enough that I feel comfortable posting this up here.

For those not familiar with this odd duck of an instrument, it's tuned the same as a standard 12-string guitar (it has 11 strings, though, there's no pair on the lowest E). The strings are unison courses rather than octave pairs. With a 1-5/8" nut and strings fanning out to over 3-1/2" at the bridge, with the neck meeting the body at the 7th fret.

Somehow, I managed to squeeze a magnetic X-Brace for a Tonewood Amp (normally used only on acoustic guitars) into this thing, although the magnets are barely strong enough to penetrate the thick wood of the back. The Tonewood Amp sticks to the back of the instrument, takes input from the pickup jack, and resonates the instrument back to project its effects out through the sound hole...no additional amp or speaker is used.

This is my version of "Star of the County Down", loosely based on the Japanese style arrangement on Joe Craven's "Camptown" CD, using a Plate Reverb setting on the Tonewood Amp, and recorded straight into a Zoom H4N. I hope you enjoy this break from the usual virtuosity that goes on around here!

Thanks, Barry. If you think THAT'S an interesting arrangement, you should hear Joe Craven's version!

Actually that was soothing to listen to. I had to step out of my guitar mindset though
