I hadn't heard of that till now. The mint is only 10 minutes drive away & the shop is open on weekends.

I might go check it out, maybe even buy myself a birthday present .

I played cricket in the 60's on the cricket ground next to the Mint - also went through just after Australia switched to decimal currency in 1966 - remember the round 50c coins that ended up with over 50c of silver content in each coin? They were being shipped out of the country and melted down to make silverware ... which is why they were redesigned in 1969 as the multi sided 50c we know today.
The original round coins were 80% Silver - 20% Copper.
The redesigned coins are 75% Copper - 25% Nickel.

Sorry everyone, just a little trip down memory lane regarding the Mint in Canberra.

Me too, except more like the 70s in my case & my sisters all played netball there.

Still functioning as one of the larger sportsgrounds on the inner south & during drought times literally hundreds of kangaroos come down from Red Hill every afternoon to dine on the watered, lush green pasture there.

Still though, a nice commemoration to have been done.
True, it may not be perfect but as you suggest, it's the sentiment that counts.

Sobering thought....
Indeed but I think his memory will live on for many more of his lifetimes.

No it's a lot like basketball without the backboard on the net & limitations on how far the players can move around. Traditionally a ladies sport (although more men playing now, particularly in mixed/social comps) that's pretty big through the Commonwealth the big hitters other than Australia are New Zealand, Great Britain & Jamaica & to an extent S.Africa, not sure about Canada.

Yeah we have volleyball down here too.
