Question Any Albert Hammond fans here?

I had a previous post on my new found enthusiasm for Chris de Burgh. Also I’ve recently discovered the music of Albert Hammond.

Albert Hammond OBE (born 18 May 1944 in London) is a British-Gibraltarian singer, songwriter, and record producer.

His biggest (and only top 20) U.S. Billboard hit was "It Never Rains in Southern California", No. 5 in 1972. Other songs of his include "Down by the River", "The Free Electric Band", and “I'm a Train.” (A big favorite of mine).

A prolific songwriter. He has written or co-written such songs as.... “Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship, "One Moment in Time" sung by Whitney Houston, "The Air That I Breathe", a hit for the Hollies, "To All the Girls I've Loved Before", a Julio Iglesias/Willie Nelson duet, and "When I Need You" by Leo Sayer.

“I Don't Wanna Live Without Your Love" by Chicago and “Don't You Love Me Anymore?” by Meat Loaf

In 2015, he received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection.

I was familar with many of these songs but I never knew who they were written by. I have really come to love his own work and his versions of these songs.

Any fans of his own music?

I’ve only listened to his son a couple of times....not my type of music.

Here is his acoustic song “I’m A Train” it’s a bit whacky but it’s a fun song....

Liam, if you look at “Edit” in your post, you’ll see what I did to embed the video compared to the script you posted.

A little Albert Hammond trivia - in his younger days he was broke and panhandling in Gibraltar. He solicited a passing English couple for a handout and all were horrified to discover that the couple was in his family circle. He did not want his parents to find out about his current circumstances and pleaded, "don't tell them how you found me". The line found its way into "It Never Rains in Southern California" some years later.

Wow, I didn’t know that about him! I think that song is more autobiographical than I thought!

I'm a little surprised that no one has mentioned "99 Miles To L.A." He had a hit with it as did Art Garfunkel a couple years later.

Forgot to mention that one! Another great one too. It’s amazing I’m only finding out about this guy now!
