Default Staying in my mountain cabin...

Several months ago, I posted that I was going to be moving from my western Allbemarle VA cabin in the fall and in with my Sweetie who lives in a suburban Richmond, VA one story condo. I wanted to provide the "rest of the story." I decided to stay put, and I believe that she was happy with the decision judging by the little bit of grief that she gave me for changing my mind.

Is this you?

Bon Iver is an American indie folk band founded in 2006 by singer-songwriter Justin Vernon. Vernon released Bon Iver's debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, independently in July 2007. The majority of that album was recorded while Vernon spent three months isolated in a cabin in western Wisconsin.

Great album too.

Your experience supports my general thesis that our partners want to know where we are and to be available if needed, but they don’t want us around all the time.

I have an off grid cabin in Southern Illinois. Key word here is Southern, and it's too hot to enjoy right now.

But it's in the middle of 30 acres of woods and a great place when it's under 80 degrees.

Antique wood burning cook stove, and wildlife galore.

You're better off.

Hi Randy,
I hope you didn’t sell your chainsaw. But I sense that you’ve got the valley in you. It’s hard to become a city boy after years in the woods.

It is what it is, and nothing is set in stone. Living with people takes getting used to. I've been married fifty years and I can't imagine living with real people.

Will she be joining you at Walden Pond?

Bob

Thanks Jim. Actually my chain saw days are way behind me, and I buy my firewood these days so I had no chainsaw to sell. I sold a few tools that I'll replace but not much...

I think what you're really asking is did my decision cause a break-up. The answer is "No." She came up here last weekend, and I'll be spending the 4th in civilization with her. She's very vested in the lives of her adult children and young grandchildren, and I don't think either of us wants my presence interfering with that...

I would stay in Albermarle Co. compared to Richmond for sure. Now if it was between where you are and Blacksburg, then that would be another story!

Walden Pond is in Massachusetts, Lincoln and Concord. I use to drive by it several times a week. It was where this writer guy stayed for a couple years to get some thinking done. It brings tons of people a year.

I miss Mass. and I think of it everyday. Walden Pond is not mentioned much, if ever, especially in a forum. I simply got a kick out of the reference. ...its almost like stay in the cabin, nobody will mind, not even a lady friend.

Randy got your reference, I’m pretty sure. There are lots of readers here, such as Bob.

Randy has been regaling us for years about the animals that wander through his smallholding, with love. At his first announcement I had wondered if he would want to give up the tranquility.
