Default Guitar nut + saddle, which one does my guitar use?

How do I find out which Nubone nut and Nubone saddle my guitar use?

My Fender California Series Redondo Player comes equipped with a Nubone nut and Nubone saddle.

Not sure which type. Nubone makes a lot of different ones.

Thanks!, Dave.

The best bet is to get measurements. L - overall length. For the saddle, it's gonna be around 3 inches. The nut is probably 43mm. W - thickness or width of the item from front to back. Likely 1/8" for the saddle, and about 1/4" for the nut. And finally H - the height from top to bottom. Likely 5 mm for the nut and 6mm for the saddle. You'll see the measurements given in both standard and metric units of measurements. A micrometer that does metric is the way to go, although Tusq uses decimal inches. Always order larger (for all all dimensions) or the same. Never smaller. Plan on having to do some fitting with sanding and/or filing. Old saddles come right out and usually fit loosely. The nut on your guitar, especially if it is glued in is probably going to break when you remove it, making the measuring part more difficult.

I'd contact the manufacturer (Fender) and ask for the replacement part numbers. Alternatively, contact Nubone and ask them which nut and saddle Fender is using on your model of guitar.

I measured my stock saddle of my guitar and it sits at 72mm length. I bought a 74mm one, is it normal to sand the length?

Yes, any dimension can be sanded or filed as needed.

I have a piece of cloth string underneath my saddle, is it ok to remove it?

That 'piece of cloth string' is the pickup. Best leave it alone if you want to continue to be able to amplify the guitar.

As a matter of interest, why do you feel the need to replace the saddle?

My strings are eating the saddle. I already ordered a new bone saddle that should be better.

So, I should rephrase the question.

Is the saddle-eating affecting the playability of the guitar, or are you just concerned about the way it looks?

It bothers me looking at it.
