Just treat the Mrs. to a pedicure/massage...and have it delivered while she's there. Stick it in the back of that closet and just pull it out naturally one day. "This old thing, I had forgotten it was back there."

Or has this happened too often already?

How does that crossover sound? It's such an interesting (and handsome) guitar that I hope it was a sonic success.

I know the koa guitar sounds great, I can vouch for that.

We'll start to hear her voice tomorrow for the first time.
I truthfully have no idea what this will sound like. Safe money is on a lattice-braced-Mango-topped-nylon-string type sound. Surely you're familiar with that?
But it thumped and tapped like small explosions so it should at least have some volume. Stay tuned...

Steve

Well for mainly steel string builders it's been fun that about 10% of our guitars lately have been nylon stringed. This all-Mango guitar is warm sounding. Lots of rumble-y bass and smooth trebles. It was built with the idea of playing amplified, and plugged in it sounds like a great smooth jazz guitar. Trying not to overuse the word smooth here, but there it is. Is that a function of the lattice bracing or the mango? Probably a little of both, but it impresses as just a guitar not just as an all-Mango instrument.

And Bob's on the way right now to get it. Here's some pics I just snapped.

Schertler tuners:

Back side. The purple logo is our lagniappe for Bob who loves this color. This was not asked for, but hopefully appreciated.

Thanks for watching. We'll be back to regularly scheduled F1 programming soon.

Great looking guitar. You guys really got edgy with the top bracing. Does it respond nicely to nylon strings?

Ok. It is the start of the Christmas season, so how about a Christmas Challenge to get you in the mood. Can you guess the name of one of my favorite Christmas songs as played on Bob's new Mango CS? If you can get the answer, PM me your guess.

We'll give this until Sunday at noon central. Then, I will randomly pick from the correct answers and someone will win a new Kinnaird shirt (a great stocking stuffer).

Please no answers in the thread.

Default Stay tuned...

With Steve and Ryan's help I'll run a short thread on The Mango Thing...the concept, the process and the product (you see above) with pictures, commentary and some of the contemplations that came in along the way. The Right Answer (by the way) on how it sounds is EXACTLY how I wanted it to. So huge thanks to Steve and Ryan for going along with it.

Well apparently free shirts aren't the incentive they once were to get people to win a prize. Should we up the prize or change the competition? Let's make it a vote. You have the challenge now: more incentive to solve it or a whole new Christmas Challenge?

I just didn't recognize the tune, hence no PM.

No clue on the tune.

So I am going to guess "hells bells" by ac dc.

Wait my guess is not a Christmas tune... Ugh. By the way I liked the sound of the nylon string guitar and it is beautiful.

Yeah that's what I figured. A lot of people watched, no correct answers. I wonder if the ante was upped as far as incentive, if it would get people to do more than listen and say "Don't know that" and try to figure it out. Or should I make the challenge something people can figure out in 20 seconds at a computer? What is a preferable AGF contest?

Well we have a winner. A few hours after the official deadline, but I'm wanting to give something away. Bmh1 correctly answered with Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence. Click the link for a version my good friend and great songwriter Jason Harrod plays. His non-Christmas stuff is pretty dang good too. I would also have accepted "Picardy" the French tune arranged by Ralph Vaughn Williams.

Thanks for following along. Maybe another game before it's all said and done.

I'm sorry, even the title did not help me...haha. Neither Kathy or I had heard of the song, pretty though it is.

Well, we're celebrating Hanukkah here, so unless it is fairly mainstream, I'd have no idea, lol. However, you don't want to make it too easy, unless you then select a random correct answer. More than anything, it's simply a nice thing for you guys to do, and I appreciate it.
