Wonderful stuff!!!
By far my favorite incarnations of the band... before they were cocky and so certain they were BIG DEALS... before they went "for the Gold"... Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner were both such a huge part of the sound... and both SO talented! The first two Eagles records are both my favorites of the band... and I'm pretty sure I'm in the vast minority on that!!!

Desperado is my favorite Eagles album, hands down. "Son, don't wade too deep, in Bitter Creek!"

I really liked "Deperado", as well... funny that the boys in the band didn't think it was very good - I guess because it didn't "soar" on the charts like their first record did.
Looking back, I'd say that "On The Border", with the addition of Don Felder on "lead" guitar, was their real push for "stardom"... and they lost a lot of credibility with me at that move... Oh, I finally got to see the "movie" they made for "Desperado"... I recall being excited to see it, and quickly realized why they didn't "put it out there" for public consumption! I remember being disappointed and very little about the "movie"... a shame, because I always loved that photo with the bodies on the ground (who included Ned Doheny, J.D. Souther and Jackson Browne!); I expected something more than i got.

The early days were their best days IMO. The last few times I saw them they were way over produced and staged. It seemed that even a look to the left or right was choreographed. Nothing spontaneous at all. But those early years were terrific. Thanks for posting.

Nice to see that stage of their development. Its a a little raw but the seeds of what they would become.

I use to be an Eagles fan until last year after reading Don Felders book. I understand he wrote it with a certain bias and perspective, but I suspect there is more truth than fiction on the pages. I can identify with some of what he's saying as I'm going through something similar. A year ago I was a founding member of an acoustic trio, today I'm just a sideman, left out of any decisions.

Thanks for sharing this. I love all the evolutionary phases of The Eagles music, but not necessarily how they got there, as lead by Hendley and Frey. The same could be said for many bands though.

Interesting comments. Gentle comments. What strikes me is that everything Glenn Frey carped about, scooping, fall-off, etc... they are doing it in droves in this concert. People complain that the latest edition of the Eagles sounds like a cover band. THIS sounds like an Eagles cover band, and not a particularly good one, in fact. You can see why they worked so hard to improve the brand, and with later concerts, such as the one at the Capital Center in March 1977, you see them becoming a much tighter vocal group, probably the standard by which others were judged. I didn't get through this video. My lovely wife, a trained soprano who loves the Eagles, looked over at me during the playback and asked, "Who the heck is THIS?
Sorry. There's one in every crowd. Bob
