Tuning to E flat from standard
So three years ago I bought my first guitar ,I researched all the models spec etc,and dicided on a Furch Ga 23 crc cedar top rosewood noW it came with Elixer strings I changed that ,they felt horrible , I liked the sound of the Furch with new strings on it but felt it a tad bright not as bright as a Taylor and not as low as a Martin, but still not satisfied as I want to be . Well last week I learned about de tuning your guitar down to E flat , whAt a huge difference it makes quite remarkable tone . So what do you guys think about E flat tuning does it work for you as it has for me ...thanks...... sorry edit ....I mean tuning down half a step sorry again cheers

I do it on my older guitars, then capo if need be. Its not uncommon.

I do the same, for the same reason - my guitar sounds better.

Been doing that for decades - as it helps my crappy singing.. my strat, tele and acoustic all tuned to e flat - only time I tune to regular is when the wife wants to play my acoustic to learn/sing a song she is in love with - so i tune it to reg E for her. |

I've read, Zach Brown's whole band is tuned to Eb Dont know if it's true or not. But there are advantages.

I play that way cause I have wrist problems. Its not as nice sounding fingerstyle as standard but it allows me to keep playing.

I think Stevie Ray Vaughan also tuned down 1/2 step so he could get those deep bends.

I do that but often I use D tuning because when i play lead (once in a blue moon) I get confused when I look at the fingerboard and the inlay "helpers."
Btw, there is a similar discussion over at one of the electric guitar forums I am a member of. The talk was the tuning seems better for some types of electric guitars ... such as Stratocasters ... but not for others. I sort of agree and sort of don't agree.

I have a friend who has tuned his 12-string down a full step. He's now bordering on fret buzz but he likes it. I haven't played around with it much. Tried it on my Taylor 914ce a few times but I didn't think that particular guitar sounded as good when tuned down as it does in standard tuning.
