Default What in the world is a NRD?

...Besides a vowel-less spelling of the word for "geek"? I know we've got a lot of NxDs on the forum but I think I might be adding a new one to the AGF lexicon: How about "New Receiver Day"? Because of The Covid thang, taking my audio work home recently demanded I replace my sixteen-year-old surround receiver. You can benefit from my experience and maybe learn a thang or two over HERE.

Hi Bob!

Thanks for the review - our 15 yr old Pioneer 5.1 surround receiver is in the process of gradually making it's way out of this world. The LED's are so dim you cannot read them anymore.

The packaged sub also quit (so I bought a 10" powered Polk sub for $99) and it's so much better than the 15 yr old 6" sub.

I have Bose mini-speakers (stacked pairs which can be aimed, sitting on adjustable poles/stands…head high when we are seated) that came in the 'package-deal' from Sam's Club 15 yrs ago. They still sound great and am assuming they will work just fine with the new receiver.

I'd considered the receiver you listed, so the detailed report is helpful. Thanks again…I'm holding out till the Pioneer dies.

I know what you mean. These black boxes are as sexless as anything in audio can be and contemplating replacement in this day and age just seems to be sort of retro... and unappealing. The funny thing is that I often find that the new unit sounds a lot better and I'd been lulled to sleep by the last one.

i know!! I set up the AM/FM receiver portion of the unit, scanned the local stations, and just said, "What a waste!"

Ya even as far back as the mid 80's or early 90's when I upgraded my home stereo system I chose and integrated amp and skipped a tuner altogether.

Hi KW

I think it's related to a 'tape', or a CD.

It's the part of the phone you hold on your hand, as opposed to the larger base unit with the dial and the bells.

Duh!

I'm not sure there is an integrated amp that contains the switching and matrixing capabilities of a surround receiver. It was something I considered but couldn't find.
