Really like that example photo - that's a very "worn" looking burst, maybe hand-rubbed. That guitar might look good in a darker red, too...

I vote no burst as I hug some maple.

John, yep, pretty close. It is of course hard to say exactly how the birdseye will look compared to the maple that Taylor uses, but my hunch is that yours would look better. What am I thinking??? Of COURSE it would look better . Are you thinking you'll do a burst over the entire guitar or leave the top natural?

Not a strong burst on top. I just want enough there to keep up the vintage look and coordinate with the back and sides. And thanks for the vote of confidence!

As is. That beautiful wood shouldn't be covered.

Think antique violin with patina from age and play.

I'm thinking that a proper burst for the back and sides of this guitar cannot be sprayed on but needs to be hand rubbed into the grain to accentuate the curls and the eyes and not cover them.

Brother John, may I weigh in? If you get Tony to do this for you, you will be pleased--whatever he does will be perfect. He can burst it where the grain still pops. As for the example you showed, that is an attractive color--but an unusual pattern. Typically a burst has a worn center, with the entire perimeter dark. Or at least dark-er. That guitar has a hour glass center, which is a bit unexpected.
My vote is for Tony's tobacco burst, top, sides, back and neck. Besides, you know you want to do that! Steve |

If tony can do that then he has the job. I for sure would rather he did it.
I know what you mean about the burst pattern being atypical, but something about that pattern calls to me. Somehow the simulated wear looks more authentic than a regular sunburst. I'm calling Tony

burst = broken?
While i have seen a few sunbursts that look nice, in general I hate to see good wood "painted". If it exhibits runout, i would be easier persuaded to go with a light sunburst
