Default Latest Build, 12 Fret, Slope Shoulder

Just got this one strung up and thought I'd share it with you.

Stained spruce top, mahogany b&s, maple binding and head plates, golden age 3 to a plate tuners.

Best news is it's playing well and sounding good, a bit different than the grand concert and parlor guitars I usually build.

Thanks for looking,
Joe

Great vibe to that one. I like the very warm, woody color scheme. It's a great combination of rather a plain, old-timey overall look but exquisite details and wood grains when you look up close.

Rosewood fretboard and bridge, right? Was that just for the look or does it preserve (compared to ebony) a little "cut" to go with the big 12-fret slope voice?

Joe!
That is VERY attractive and I don't even like dreads!! It's so "organic" looking. Congrats, my friend!

Thanks everyone!

Yeah Brent, rosewood bridge and fretboard. I've only used ebony on one guitar and love the looks of it but have read more experienced builders say that ebony has more damping and usually prefer a rosewood bridge, unless of course that want that quality to give them the sound they want. it's all about balance, visually and tonally. Myself I was able to pick up a good bit of "lower" grade rosewood fretboards at a good price. Lower grade meaning they look more like interesting wood, with more color and grain variation than the even colored higher grades. So I think they add a bit more character to a guitar.

Hey Haans it's the only dread I've built also but was drawn to the curves of these rather than the boxy shape of the standard dread. Seems to be a nice addition to the arsenal.

Thanks everyone!

Yeah those are the stew-mac tuners. I love the looks of them, functionally they're a little more vintage than I like, there is a bit of slop in them just like the vintage tuners they look like. You know when you go to back off the tension there is a bit of back play just like the old guitars had. I wish they were as smooth as the grover sta-tites, but I prefer the looks of these.

And here is a small youtube vid to give you a taste of what it sounds like. I'm off grid so had to keep it short and lower the recording quality to keep the upload time down, but it doesn't seem to affect the sound near as much as the picture quality.

Thanks for checking in,

Very aesthetic, good to look and touch, warm colors and it's very inviting too.
