I've got these, and I want for nothing. The dread and the archtop don't get as much playing time as the others, but when I need them they're indispensable.

13. Most in the sig below. 14 if you count the Lanikai Uke.
Pics - the ES-335, W10 and Rick Turner were sold in the last year. The 335 wasn't a good example of Gibson's best work (Most copies played/sounded better), I didn't play the W10 (prefer OMs and GAs), and the Rick Turner was swapped out for a Godin (didn't like the 2" classical neck). I play most of them, but the Baby-M and Gretsch get less use. (Baby the uke are for when I travel, and I don't like dinging up the Gretsch. BUT....it gets played when I'm working on Chet tunes or getting my rockabilly fix. Added this G&L Tele - because who can't use another Telecaster? Took these two to the CAAS (Chet Atkins) convention last year. Eastman E40-OM and Taylor 812ce-N Time to Buck up. Recording King Bakersfield. If 6 is good, 12 is better. Taylor 356ce Gimme Rick. Rickenbacker 620/12 I think I've been playing about 42 years now. I got my first (awful) guitar when I was 16. Found one @ GC for $199. Tempted to buy it just to remember how bad it was. FAME 747 with a howler of a single coil pickup. Picked up a Yamaha Classical in college. That one's long gone, along with that hair. Those glasses were so thick, they had A&W stamped on them. Also, this Ventura "Martin" copy. It was actually a pretty good guitar. Solid top, back and sides, Guild-type fret markers. I wouldn't mind buying one if I could find one for a decent price.

The OP brings to mind an anecdote shared by Jackson Browne on his Acoustic Live album. JB is in a guitar shop and strikes up a conversation with an Italian Hare Krishna who's having a guitar with three necks custom built. The HK asks him with disdain how many guitars he owns to which JB responds, "I don't know."
HK goes on to relate a lengthy metaphor that a guitar is like a woman - if you find the right one, you'll only need one. To which JB closes, "Yeh, with three necks..."

Have sixteen, plus a mandolin which I never play. All the guitars get played, some more than others, but they all play and sound pretty good....especially if the guitar just sings when played the way it likes.

Just the three in my signature. My first good guitar was a early 70's Lyle Hummingbird. I would like to find one like it even if it just hung on the wall as art. Kind of a candy apple red burst with beautiful MOP fret markers.

Let's see...haven't counted in a while.
Four Gibson acoustics from the 1930's. Two Gibson acoustics from the 1940's. Four Guilds (one electric archtop from the '50's and three flattops from the early '70's). Two Dobro resonators (one squareneck and one roundneck). A Huss & Dalton OM. A Rockbridge slope dread. A Tele partscaster. 15 total. I have most of them out on a long rack that allows for easy access, depending on what mood I am in and what tone I am after.

I have just three: one I love (an Eastman E8OM) and two I like.
I'm still waiting for my playing to improve so I can justify buying myself a Martin OM-28.

I briefly had seven when I was in the process of figuring stuff out. But now I'm down to four, one acoustic and three electrics, and I think that's where I'll be for a while. I doubt I'll want or need another acoustic - I had three but always grabbed for one of them, so I sold the other two. I may eventually get down to two electrics - a strat and something with P90s, but at the moment I also have a tele I love and don't have any need to get rid of it, so I'm happy having three...

Three. That's enough.
I try to rotate through just so as to experience the differences, but honestly, I could go with just one, and it would probably be the Yamaha. My latest thing is trying to memorize lyrics to songs. Hotel California is my new project, I like doing it with a reggae rhythm.

"Some" acoustics: dreads, a jumbo and some smaller. Two 12 strings, and a couple of resos.
but : NO electrics ... well, apart from a couple of cheap bass guitars ... somewhere.

I thought about what I'd reduce to if I had to get it down to a smaller number. I think that # is X.
Electric - the Telecaster. It's the Swiss Army Knife of guitars. As Bill Kirchen said, "Born at the junction of form and function." 12 string - Taylor 356CE Nylon - Taylor 812ce-N Steel String - a tie between the Taylor 514ce and the Eastman OM. The OM is better for digging into - the Adi top just keeps pushing back, no matter hard you push it. The 514ce is better for fingerstyle and acoustic lead stuff - it bogs down if you push it too hard, but it's great for what it does best. I've had it since 1998, and haven't found anything I like better. So...I could get it down to 5. 4 if I HAD to....
