I dont like the knots in appearance or what that might mean in the future. If the grain is not straightish there is the potential for cracks and splits. Thats objective, subjectively I dont like bling or white bound fingerboards, so no not wow for me.

It’s a gorgeous instrument. I owned a Goodall for many years that had a similar Cocobolo back and sides. If the figuring were a potential issue I doubt James Goodall would use it.

Nice beater guitar!

I think Goodallboy had a valid point. The way the wood is sawn would negate any potential future problems. I love that kind of figuring in the wood.

I would love to hear that. A 2016 - one of three.

Meh. For acoustic guitars, I'd much rather see nicely quartered wood.

A laminated guitar is a different story.

But, for some reason, I don't think that Martin is a laminated instrument.

$12,000.00 Australian .. plus shipping ... ouch.

But I like it ... goes nicely with my Grand J12-40E Special 12-string.

If this Martin ever gets a SDOTD price......there goes my guitar budget for the next few years!

It's beautiful!

As far as the flat-sawn or figured wood being at higher risk for cracks... I don't know. I'm a guitar tech/luthier with my own shop and have repaired countless cracks, and I haven't noticed any trend that flat-sawn/figured wood cracks more than quarter sawn/straight grained. It seems I repair more top cracks than back/sides, and that is always quarter sawn.

That looks like a sweetheart of a Martin. I had one of the CS-D28-12 models that was Cocobolo and Red Spruce and it was one of the best sounding newer Martin I've played. I thought better than the 10+ Authentic models I've played even.
