I played Rory's Strat, and his d-35. They were in the workshop of a good friend of mine who is a well known luthier, then, in London.

He liked very high actions. Never met him though

The Waterboys. Discovered them only recently. Not a fan of their rock stuff, but really like their folk albums, especially Fisherman's Blues. That song also happens to feature the most haunting fiddle part I've ever heard, and I've heard lots of fiddle parts.

The Unicorn Song is by far the best Traditional Irish song written in the Twentieth Century in Nashville by a Jew from Brooklyn

The utterly delightful Shel Silverstein, RIP

I guess I am duty-bound to say The Munster Pickles. I loved the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem when they were performing. Did you know that at one time something like 2/3 of all the records sold in Ireland were by them? I may not remember the correct number, but it was amazing.

I also like Cherish the Ladies.

I stay away from the Irish festivals now unless I am performing - way too loud for my ears!

My short list:

Clancy Bros, especially w/ Tommy Makem
Van Morrison
Clannad
Corrs
. . . and a special place somewhere for Loreena McKennitt.

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Which is also a Boston holiday called "Evacuation Day". Putting Ticonderoga cannon on Dorchester Heights overlooking the harbor forced the British Army to leave in 1776.

Don

Not Irish, Scots, the late Andy M. Stewart always comes to mind during discussions like these. Both solo and with Silly Wizard, I can listen to his performances all day long.

His terrifying end of music and life threw a cold bucket of water on the music world.

This may be blasphemy, but Mark Knopfler. I know he's English but his solo albums have great Irish influences. And his playing is second to none.
