As far as playing guitar goes, when playing for others I’m usually standing. In my practice room, I use a very ugly Danish Modern chair from the 1950s, kind of triangular in shape with no arms. Inherited it from my mother in law and have never seen another like it, which is not a bad thing.
Oddly enough I later found a wooden guitar stand that almost perfectly matches the chair shape for $5 at Music Go Round.

Doesn't the wheelchair get in the way of the guitar?

No, the right sideguard is removable so I can pull the guitar all the way to my body

I don't usually like to sit and play but when I do, I do it here....

95% of the time I prefer to stand but don't like a strap so I use my guitar stand/footrest that allows me to just pick the guitar up, rest my right leg on the footrest and play.

Couch in whatever room I'm playing in. I sit on the front edge i.e. I don't lean back.

LOL. This thread is full of win.

As for what I sit on, it's this fleshy thing that God gave me when I was born. It didn't cost anything and it wasn't too big when I acquired it but I've put a lot of money into making it bigger and softer. That's not necessarily a good thing.

Seriously though, I just sit on the couch and wear a strap to keep the guitar from slipping. Personally I think that playing while standing allows for better posture and use of the diaphragm while singing.

I have a glider/rocker that I found at GW for $5 and modified by taking off the arms, and bracing the back with gussets much like the Glider rocker others have posted.

This Shimpo potter’s chair is handy as is adjustable with a pro tilt if you like which helps eliminate slouching.

I love my Original Guitar Chair. Perhaps pricey but simple, organic, and elegant. I just purchased two Solid Ground Stand guitar stands and a beautiful Take A Stand music stand to compliment it. I love natural wood music and guitar stands.
