Yeah, the only thing that took some of the sting out of the Eagles totally stinking up the joint was watching Dallas lose at home due to abject stupidity. Early, I thought the Niners were gonna dominate, but Dallas at least made it interesting. But I had faith that they’d come up short. They’ve been doing it most of my life…

Fantastic game, even better outcome!
Happy to see the Niners win; but they didn’t look very good in the second half. Some of Garapolo’s passes in the second half were TERRIBLE. They will need a more complete effort next week.

100%. They’d have done better just to run it all second half.

McCarthy repeatedly does the dumbest things a head coach can do year after year. It's remarkable he keeps getting jobs.

Besides the bone headed QB draw call, his team committed stupid penalty after stupid penalty. 14 penalties in all and they're the most penalized team in the league. Another sign of horrible coaching.

Dak was surgically shooting pases to the sidelines and move that ball really quick in a few seconds. It was working. There was enough time to shoot for the sidelines again and then try a more realistic Hail Mary situation.

Yes and boneheaded defense by the Niners. Football 101 is to take away the sideline routes in that situation.

That was an exciting game but was an abysmally played game on both sides.

The Dallas/ SF game was great to watch. As far as the last play from Dallas was that a sideline call or was it Dak's instinct? Not good. The penalties were horrendous and mostly unnecessary on Dallas. Hurtful. SF is squeaking through but I don't know how far that rides. What will be the future of Jimmy G? I called my brother after the game (he lives in Dallas) and he wouldn't pick up. This was a big loss for Dallas and their fans. They are not happy.

I think McCarthy will be fired.

Yup. if you're going to hold you must disguise it. Dallas was blatant. Very disappointing at key times. This has been a season long concern for Dallas and that does fall to coaching in my opinion. Um, don't do that but if you feel you have to be clever about it. There are potential calls on every play in the NFL. Most of them get away with it. Clever. Sometimes I wonder if the ref's just say let the boys play but have to shut the water off when it goes too far. Dallas didn't hide their sins. Flag.

No, Eagles. I can't stand the Cowboys. Have more or less hated them (not in the literal sense, but close) since I was a kid growing up in Arizona where everyone loved them. They were America's team, but they mostly represented the things I liked least about America. I wasn't disappointed the Cowboys lost - I'd have been bummed if they hadn't. I'm used to supporting medium to bad teams. I was a Colts fan as a kid (the Baltimore variety) and they were really good, but I was born around their championship run in the late 50's (too young to be aware of it), watched them always lose to the Packers in the 60's and then had my heart broken by the Jets in '68. They only won one Super Bowl in my youth and in Baltimore (against the Cowboys in one of the dullest Super Bowls ever played) and then spirited away to Indy in the middle of the night. I don't like THEM anymore either!

I've lived in the Philly area and been an Eagles fan since the early 90s - they're generally anywhere from medium bad to pretty good, but have only won it all once, in that glorious game against the Pats a few years ago. Now they're back to their old tricks of being just good enough to get your hopes up but not good enough to do anything about it. They were profoundly bad yesterday - they were profoundly bad against good teams all season but snuck into the playoffs by playing in the worst division in football. I don't count on the Eagles winning to get my yuks - I count on the Cowboys losing for that! They haven't let me down in a long time, not getting past the divisional round of the playoffs since their last Super Bowl in '95. I appreciate that sort of dependable consistency...

That last play was called, not instinct.

From Wisconsin... you must know McCarthy very well. Any insights on him seeing him more than most when he coached there? I don't want to be mean, but I personally think he's nearly completely incompetent as a head coach. I'm sure he does something well football-wise, but head coaching is not one of them.

I am a proud Dallas Cowboys fan, but yesterday's game showed that the Niners were the better team. To my mind, they simply outplayed the Cowboys. I'm not happy about it but that's the truth. Even if the Cowboys had managed to pull off a last second victory, they would have been eliminated in the next round. Their play wasn't up to their capabilities and I have no idea why they do the things they do.

I guess there's always next year ...

Best,
PJ
