Default Sadowsky SS-15 Archtop Guitar

While archtops started out as acoustic guitars, they evolved with such styles as bebop, hardbop, modern, post modern and the like. Not as feedback resistant nor note-staining as a solid body and lacking the overtones and dry resonance of the fully acoustic archtop, the electric archtop has carved out a unique niche for itself by filling an important and vital role in the history of jazz music as well as other genres.

For me, the "electric" archtop is synonymous with the term archtop guitar since its existence was forged from the music to which it has been vital since the beginning of jazz. The instrument has evolved with the music.

In my opinion, Sadowsky makes some of the great players' archtops on the market today. Guitars that sound great, can be amplified while mitigating feedback, can withstand the rigors of life on the road and that give ample nod to the great archtop forebearers like Jimmy D’Aquisto, John D'Angelico, Gibson, and the like.

I was fortunate enough to stumble across a used Sadowsky SS-15...an archtop that I've been coveting for many, many years. Finally found one at a price I thought was GREAT, the finish that I've lusted over and available for local pickup. Cannot wait to pickup this fine instrument on Sunday.

Photos to follow.

Can’t wait to see the pics! There are some great interviews with Roger (Sadowsky) on the Fretboard Journal website. He’s an extremely smart guy and I really appreciate hearing his insight and approach.

This is exciting!

Picked up my new guitar this morning. Guitar was in perfect condition. Time is so precious on the weekends that I thought I would merely post the seller's photos. Especially love this finish - Sienna Burst. Only 4 lbs, 14 oz. So light...a joy to hold. Most of all, it sounds and plays like a dream.

Congrats!

I have a Jimmy Bruno. Very close in spec to yours. It's my second Bruno and I've had a Jim Hall in the past.

Wonderful guitars!

Thank you commenting!

Hard to find the Jimmy Bruno model now. I think I may have preferred that model over the SS-15 if only because of the body depth. The Jim Hall is another holy grail for me. Some day.

I’ve got a Sadowsky semi-hollow that I’m flat out in love with. It’s amazing to play, can do just about anything, very comfortable to hold and beautiful to look at.

Default Bruno vs Hall

I'm curious to know anyone's comparison between the Jimmy Bruno and Jim Hall. I own a Jimmy Bruno don't have an opportunity to check out a Jim Hall besides just buying one. All specs seem to be the same except for the 15" vs 16" body size.

So envious. I have been looking for an SS-15 or a Jimmy Bruno for some time. They are hard to find. I will keep looking. Patience will win out. Good luck with yours.

The Jimmy Bruno model was the guitar I originally wanted, but after it was discontinued, they were hard to find. Sadowsky recently re-launched the Jimmy Bruno model. Good luck in your search...something will come up.

Default Sadowsky SS-15 compared with Buscarion Prodigy

Have played an SS-25 and was very impressed with it. Wondering if anyone has experience with the SS-25 and the Buscarino Prodigy, a similar size, but all wood. Or, perhaps with just the Prodigy for user comments. All comments appreciated. Looking at both models on line now as possible purchase for a step down from my big box axe....arthritic shoulders, you know?

My typo error....SS-15, not SS-25 as done in the body of the message.

Hi pitiful
I've got a 15, and it's a great little guitar. It'll get close to a lot of classic jazz sounds with just the tone and volume knob, and is very responsive to experimenting with different strings, picks, etc. I love the ergonomics. If I had to be in a more classic bigger bodied jazz box playing position, I don't think I'd play as much.

There's overwhelming choice out there. Good luck!
