I've been lucky enough to have met many of the big names, but the prize was spending Christmas Eve with Eric Clapton and Albert Lee many years back.

Peace,

Doc

Phil Keaggy would have to be my all-time guitar hero. Yep, I have met him. I have talked with him several times at concerts, had dinner with him once, played in concert with him once, and recorded at his house and played with his dog this past April. Lots of pics at my website. I have a whole PK section!

Wow! Great photos. What an honor to work with Phil Keaggy!

Question: Are you a really big guy or is Phil really small? In that photo of the two of you, it looks like you're two feet taller than him!

I love the picture of you with the Parker Fly with the screwdriver under the strings what is that all about? Is the Fly yours? I'd would love to have one but my finances just don't allow it at the moment.

How could I forget?! I hung out with Doyle Dykes when he played at my school a couple years ago. He even let me have a few strums on the Desert Rose...

1. Earl Klugh - my wife and I met him after a concert in a small venue. We hung out at the bar with him and the whole band for a while.

2. Tuck Andress - took lessons from him for 6 years (in the 80s), in the early stages before Tuck & Patti became very popular in the jazz world. We became and remain good friends with both of them.

3. Pete Huttlinger - Met him 3 years ago and is now a very close friend. We worked on my CD project together recently. Play and jam whenever we see each other (I really just sit there and watch his awesome playing).

4. James Taylor - not yet

5. Chet Atkins - will never meet him but he inspires me everyday.

I've got to meet a few of mine....Steve Morse, Mark Knophler, Tommy Emmanuel, Chet Atkins, Gatemouth Brown, David Bromberg, Pat Matheny, Mark O'Conner (he plays guitar too!), Phil Keaggy, Leon Redbone (well not exactly a "hero" but a really great ragtime player). Maybe more, but can't remember at the moment.

I drove Michael Hedges and Michael Manring around while they were in town for a concert and workshop. I've met John Renbourne a few times. Funny guy.

I met both SRV & Phil Keaggy. Both were super nice. I would like to meet Neil Schon or Mark Knophler!

Phil is about 5'4", and I am about 6' 1". He is about Peter Frampton's size. But, Phil's got a heart as big as an elephant's! What a great guy.
Yep, a big honor to work with him. A highlight of my musical life.
As for the photos, our hair seems to have gradually disappeared through the years.....

I do that when I record slide guitar. The Parker has such a low action that you can't play slide on it without doing the screwdriver trick. Saves me from messing with the action or keeping a guitar around just for slide. The Fly is the best playing electric guitar I have ever played, no exception.

John
My cousin dated him way back in the early 80's. I don't know for how long. He is from Paducah, KY, and we are from Marion, IL, about an hour away. His dad has a little guitar store in Paducah still to this day. A friend of mine has bought a few Larivee's there.
