Default Gotta love cool venue owners

So I got hired to do a one year anniversary party at a sushi place. They only do music for special events and this was the first time since their grand opening.

Unfortunately, it happened to fall on a weekend where there was a threat of a bad blizzard. We can get hit pretty hard here, so when the local media hypes a bad storm, the grocery stores make a ton, and bars and restaurants take a hit.

It wasn't even that bad, but the whole weekend was a complete bust everywhere. It was really cold, but only about 6 inches of snow. Needless to say, the anniversary party was pretty slow.

The owner was crazy cool though. Served me an incredible dinner, paid me my full rate in cash, and gave me a $100 gift card for the restaurant on top of my pay.

He also sat with me and was talking about doing a summer concert in the parking lot and wants me to help him plan it. All of this on the worst money day he's had all year.

Some places would have called and cancelled their live music. Some would have sent their entertainment home before they unloaded. Some venues might have tried to cut the gig early and "strike a deal" for a lower rate of pay...

This guy was unfazed by the bad day and remained appreciative. It was nice to be treated so well under such bad circumstances.

Reassuring to know that there still are decent folks treating others with respect. He banked some Karma points for sure.

Sounds like someone with whom I'd like to do business.

I'd help him plan that concert and meet some of his customers, maybe they're as cool as him. You never know what the future could bring.

Yeah, it just made me feel good. Not all venue owners are out to screw musicians over. I've been fortunate to have so many great experiences in my gig life.
