Default E and B String - Are some Coated ? All brands the same ?

Quick question ... in same gauge, are 1st and 2nd strings (E and B) generic or does each brand use different materials ? Also, does Elixir (and some other brands) coat these 2 strings like they do others in a set ? Thanks!

Different brands do different things.

Martin SP strings are flashed with bronze for example. The new authentics flashed with tin.

Elixir treats their unwound strings, but does not coat them with teflon like they do the wound ones.

Yes, Elixir's plain strings are galvanized and don't rust.
