Reverse V bracing with Sound Wings (TM) - enabling a built in Echo Chamber that generate non-electric reverb.
Works great under moonlight since the light waves from the moon improve sound penetration in the wood. PS: also heard something about nano-coated algae based strings for classical guitars but that was postponed because of COVID. |

New guitar with the Taylor Strings that last forever and never need changing!

All joking aside, this is what I would most like to see from them. I am not a fan of the quality of the GS minis “rough” finish given the price tag. I expect something that is a little more polished and refined. It would certainly behoove them to do so in order to make the model a true modern interpretation of a parlor guitar.

I have no idea what they're doing with the new model. Personally, I would like to see a 12 Fret Grand Pacific, maybe even a cutaway. I'm guessing a jumbo or a parlor

SC-13E, a new design with better neck access and so on. Oops, wait a minute, that was Martin.

New Taylor Model Unveiling October 2-4
Quote:
I recall Taylor also has a patent for a semi hollow body and related designs. Would be curious to see if they do a take on the ES335 and family. That would mesh well with their laminate tech, but my impression is that laminates only come from Tecate and solids only from Cajon. Casino guitars has a video of their tecate factory tour, where we saw a maple (or other curly wood) 212/ 222 shape. That would also be pretty cool. Even though it is entertaining to make fun of Taylor for some of their marketing talk, I gotta stick up for them.
For example, some have derided V Class as a heartless cost saving move, but that doesnt make sense to me. Their Tecate made guitars ride a very thin line profitability wise (compared to El Cajon), so why introduce the ultimate cost saving, warranty claim reducing feature exclusively in El Cajon guitars (first, and for the forseeable future?). The only conclusion i can come to is that behind the marketing speak, the folks at Taylor really believe in the way they build guitars, and the way their guitars sound. The real difference is that players view the same attributes as either features or flaws, depending on their style. |

This was my first thought when reading that announcement. Taylor needing to answer the SC-13e. Hopefully it’s more interesting than a cutout sound port. If I’m perfectly honest, while I appreciate innovation I think Taylor makes too many designs variations. Too many game changes diminish the value of each one before it. I played my friends V-class 414 the other day and it really sounds great to me. Fantastic sustain. So you have another option for bracing- Martin has these bracing options as well, although have not committed their whole manufacturing to one such as forward shifted X bracing... I also like their 8 string Baritone, wouldn’t mind finding one of those some day. Can’t imagine why they need to make more guitars and have more options when they had a BOGO sale this year. |

Lots of clever suggestions, but how many rise to the level of:
"We think it will be a game-changer for many players. Designed entirely from the ground up..." Wonder what it could be, assuming Taylor is not overhyping again. Which is probably an unreasonable assumption. Last edited by zmf; 09-09-2020 at 01:04 PM. |

Yeah, the marketing can definitely be eyeroll-inducing these days, with what seems like constant innovation coming from them. But variety is the spice of life, I guess. You've got Gibson and Martin more or less holding the traditional line with some exceptions here and there, but more and more these days Taylor seems like they're trying to push the envelope on everything, which is also fine.
As far as actual predictions, I've caught a few of their Taylor Primetime shows they do now, and Bob Taylor mentioned that an archtop is in their 5-year plan, and that Andy makes better archtops than flat tops. He also said he doesn't see them doing a solid-wood GS Mini since they sell perfectly fine as-is (350k+ in the 10 years it's been out) and they get a lot more bang for their buck financially and environmentally by use lam b/s. I did just notice that those new Breedlove Companion travel guitars have a solid wood option for $500, same price as a base GS Mini, but it is not as big as a GS Mini.

"...from the ground up"
There's the clue folks. Taylor has been bioengineering tree seeds and will be unveiling their own proprietary tonewoods with sonic properties previously unimaginable. |

Could that video from Casino show the Academy series with the maple bodies that have showed up lately? I think the nylon one, in particular, has had some iterations with highly figured maple veneers. |

Yeah. Interesting that Taylor will have to top conservative, stodgy Martin in terms of thinking outside the box.
