3 way - which guitar is which?
Here's three of my guitars playing the same first 10 measures of Mo Giolla Mear (arr. by El McMeen). The tune is played in CGDGAD with a capo on 4.
I used my Avalon, Guild and Larrivee, but not in that order. If I didn't say which guitar was which at the beginning of each track when I recorded (which I deleted for this purpose ), it would take me a second or two to figure out which is which. A capo sort of steals enough tone from a guitar that it seems to sort of level the playing field. So my guitars are starting to sound alike with a capo on. I must need a new guitar then, Anyone care to take a guess which is which?

The 2nd guitar sounds meaningfully different than what I’m used to so I concluded that must be the Avalon (never played one). Then I checked your sig to see which of the remaining two was the bigger guitar, which is what sounds like is being played in part 1...so Guild, Avalon, and then Larrivee.

The Avalon is a GA (16.25" lower bout), the Guild is a dread and the Larrivee is an OM.

I'm putting all of my private gold stash* on the Avalon being the middle one. the other two was a coin flip, picking Larrivee 1 and Guild 3.
* consists of a few bits of old dental gold. |

If I had listened to the recording without first being told that there were three separate guitars involved, I would probably have assumed the entire thing was played on one guitar.

Without looking at the poll results my vote was Guild, Avalon, Larrivee.
After voting I checked the poll and see several others thought the same. Very close In sound though. They all sounded very nice. Blues. |

I think the capo being so high is sort of throwing mud on the whole thing in a way. I'll leave this open for tonight and do the reveal tomorrow.

I also went with Guild, Avalon and Larrivee. It is very close but the second clip had great balance across the strings and a presence that large guitars can possess. There was something about the quality of the treble tones in number three that reminded me of a Larrivee. I am totally prepared however to discover that I am completely wrong. :-)

This is the most entertaining part of this thread...OP tells you flat out "not in this order" yet managed to trick a couple people so far into voting exactly that way.

I notice that when I guess correctly on these kinds of guitar sound quizzes, it is usually because I have prior experience with certain guitar makes/models. In this case, though I have never played an Avalon, I have played a number of Guild dreads and Larrivees - both OMs and dreads. And, Barry, you have posted a number of recordings with the Avalon. I imagine if I was in a room blindfolded with you playing each live, it might play out differently.
