I’ve been reading Rise Of The Archer by Thomas Rowe. It’s youth fantasy fiction, but my brother wrote it. Poor guy has to listen to the songs I write, so I’ve gotta check out his wares too. The story isn’t bad so far.

Have you read Dorsey's latest: "Naked Came the Florida Man"? It's the usual cast of weird and wild misfits, of course with new MacGyver ways to make the bad guys pay for their sins! Hiaasen has been writing since 1986, so many of his books are not available digitally. You can read his in any order as well, only a few characters are recurring. Plus he gives a short background on each recurring character for those who are not chronological readers. If you can find his original book "Tourist Season"- it's definitely one to read. Jimmy Buffett wrote the song "Ballad of Skip Wiley" about the hero (sic) of the book. The character Skink is interspersed through several of his books, and is without a doubt stranger than any character Tim Dorsey could conceive, which as you know, is saying a lot! Enjoy discovering the crazy world of Hiaasen!

I’d like to say I’m reading Michener or Hemingway, but I love crime fiction series and when I find an author I like, I binge read the series to date then move to another author. Right now I’m halfway through the Miami Jones series by A. J. Stewart. When I finish, I’ll see if my other authors have anything new. Amazon Kindle is great.

If you like that genre, you might enjoy William Kent Krueger’s Cork Corcoran series. I’m about 12 deep into this at the moment. It starts with Iron Lake, and definitely should be read in order.

To Kill a Mockingbird was required reading as part of English class back when I was in Grade 8 or 9 (one year was Shane the other To Kill a Mockingbird). How did you like it?

Just finished 'The Good Shepard' by CS Forester. I enjoyed the movie 'Greyhound' and thought I would get the full story from the book.

One of the few times where I thought the movie was actually better than the book. It was a bit of a slog to read through. Many people said the movie lacked character development, so if you want to get into the head of Krause, here's your story.

However, I did tire of reading 'Turn to this heading', and 'Very Well' every few paragraphs. And the dude does like his coffee.

Anyway, glad it was a fairly short read.

Up next is 'The Martian'.

You sound like me! Right now I'm going back and forth between the "Bosch Series" from Connelly and the "Spenser Series" of Robert Parker.

I am also reading the Rational Bible from my mentor Dennis Prager.

In another forum I frequent, members are currently exchanging "Halloween Theme" book titles. I don't know how trick-or-treaty this one is, but it has plenty of adventure, horror and excellent storytelling. Weaveworld by Clive Barker.

I liked it. I can see where it was really controversial at the time it came out...the way the plot emerged out of her childhood remembrances was really unique.
"Go Set a Watchman" has been embroiled in controversy also. I guess it was an early draft of "Mockingbird" that some have contended was never meant to be published; that Lee was taken advantage of in her aged, feeble state. It was also promoted as a sequel which it obviously was not. Since she never published any other novels that probably seemed like a wise marketing ploy. If you haven't read it I recommend it just for one variation in the storyline that contradicts "Mockingbird"...if you don't intend to read it say so and I'll spill the beans...

For Follett fans, the prequel to The Pillars of the Earth is another good read.

I bought this last year but only getting to it now. 100 pages in and it's great.

Thats right...I read Watchman and was disapointed. Mockingbird holds a place of honor on my bookshelf...I got rid of Watchman.

I just finished The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin, which is Book 1 of a trilogy. Really fascinating and inventive, but the final few pages' explanation left me a tad disappointed. I'm hooked nevertheless. Has anyone else read the trilogy? Thoughts?
