000-28 but different

I'm considering a guitar dedicated to fingerstyle. Requirements would be 1 3/4" nut, decent string spacing at the bridge, all solid wood and short scale. Preferable a 000 or possibly a 00 sized body. I don't want to limit it to rosewood or mahogany b & s, so anything is fair game (I've played some guitars that had some tone woods I'd never though fit me, but were great and some that were "my spec" that were completely underwhelming, so I'll leave my preconceived notions at the door).

I played a few new 000-28's that I liked, but I just can't get along with that pencil thin neck. The 000-28ec was a better fit, but a) I'm not Eric Clapton, so I'd prefer not to have his (or anybody's) signature on the fb and b) the $3700 price tag is a little rich for my blood.

That being said, I'm willing to part with $2 - $3K.

Any suggestions?

Spruce over Koa is a lovely combination for fingerstyle IMO. Or even Cedar over Koa.

A good used 000-28EC can be found in your price range. The signature is easy to get over, & hard to read anyway.

I know Taylor does spruce over koa with 1 3/4" nut. I'm not sure who makes cedar/koa-- maybe a custom Taylor or Martin?

Taylors usually come with 2 3/16" string spacing at bridge, a little narrow for fingerstyle.

You can get a fantastic USA made Breedlove concertina model for 2k or under. More than a few available wood combos. Worth a look at least if anyone near you carries them. Oregon,Premier and USA series. 25.0 scale 12 fret

I'd suggest looking for a used Leo Posch guitar, or possibly a new one of his budget friendly models.

Are you looking for a 12 fret, 14 fret, or 13 fret design?

If this is the one you are talking about I'd 2nd that nomination. This seems like a lot of guitar for the money and seems like it would work well for finger style.

You did say, possibly a 00. Look for a Martin CEO7. Short Scale, wider string spacing, nice comfortable neck. I have a custom in Indian rosewood that is sweet...

000-18........1/4" scalloped bracing. How about 000-28MD (Modern Deluxe) GE series bracing/VTS Sitka top.

Both 13/4" nutwidth.

Are you looking for a 12 fret, 14 fret, or 13 fret design?

I'd probably stay with a 14 fretter. The 12's I've played have felt a little cramped. I have never played a 13 before.

Your Eastman doesn't fill that role for you? I was just curious since I just picked up an e20om-tc and it's plenty loud when I pick, albeit with a thumbpick and fingers.

I think you should play a Koa back and sides instrument first - their not everybodys cup of tea .
i would say in the majority of cases - Id look for either a Hog or EIR B&S.

I think the ticket here is to travel to play different guitars - some are as different as night and day-
Id look at it like this , have fun doing a search for the perfect guitar-
its an adventure -ive done it , traveled a few times checking out Goodalls , Martins and Collings -it was alot of fun .
from the one trip I made ( being able to play a Goodall ) bought a AKS in Koa .
of course i wasnt looking for a OM or OOO - But i do own a Martin OM28v ( v neck -but its a whopper )

Taylors dont have that OM sound like a Martin style guitar ( IMO )
