Yes, best $250 I spent for recording so far is for 6 self-built 2'x4'x4' bass traps. Now I don't have to move into the living room for mic recording, which was a compromise, at best.

My goal is to get my den/office back in the next year so I can do this. It's currently being used as storage for another project. Then I'll be able to treat the space and take advantage of better equipment, should I choose to. In the meantime, I'll keep learning and having fun.
