Tanara imported by Chesbro Music Co.
Anyone have thoughts on the Tanara line of beginner Chinese-manufactured classical/nylon guitars imported by Chesbro Music Co., Idaho Falls, ID? This is the same company that imports the Teton brand guitars, which have fairly good reviews. The Tanara TSC-100NT is being offered at the local Mom & Pop music store for around the same price point as a Yamaha CG102 / CG112 series guitar.

Looked at their website. They look pretty cheap. Like something from a flea market. The Tetons are pretty nice.

If there is a question whether or not to buy one, take a clue from their website's description, "Tanara Classical acoustic guitars accentuate the softer, deeper tone of the nylon strings."
That is not a plus, sounding cheap, since deeper tones are produced easily by a nylon string guitar, clarity coming with higher quality. It's the opposite for steel strings - clarity automatic, bass not so easy. Listen to how bass rich the Martin nylon Backpacker sounds, and how bass poor the steel version is. As far as I can tell from Martin's website, the bracing is the same for nylon and steel, so it well could be a good, neutral comparison. |
