I am a favorites guy, so having a large number of guitars just makes me feel guilty about only playing one. I suspect that makes this problem much easier to solve.

For me it was purchasing a guitar at about twice the price I had any business spending. I have not thought about another guitar since.

I have found. Every time I thought I wanted a 335. When it came down to it. I couldn't seem to pull the trigger. I would A/B against Les Paul's. Ad would always end up with the latter. Had a 355 walnut once but couldn't connect with that one either. Guess I'm just not much of a 335 guy. I love the look. Love hearing others play them. My favorite probably Larry Carlton. But Pat Simmons back in the day as well. Some guitars just make you want to play. Some don't. Borrowed a 1963 original for some tracks in the studio. Ended up with Les Paul's on the tracks. Just how I roll I guess.

I've achieved it. The magic combination is having a range of guitars that cover everything I can imagine and not taking and of the AGF posts very seriously.

I think GAS is over for me. I have accumulated 14 guitars, a mandolin, uke, and 2 digital keyboards during my working years. Now retired, I have concluded that I don't have time to play them all. I plan to scale back to about 6 guitars for as long as I keep my summer cottage. Three more guitars will go when the cottage goes. I will keep the keyboards, uke, and mandolin.

My classical guitars have past 10 years in age. I may possibly find the need to replace one of them.

In grade school, I played in a bell choir. I may get a bell kit.

I still feel the urge to acquire more guitars. But I rein in the impulse. It usually surfaces when there is something else going on inside. When my inner life is in balance, my guitars sound really good to me, and I see that they are of high enough quality that they don’t limit my playing or my pleasure. It is almost always my state of mind that limits my pleasure, and and it is the amount of time I am giving to my music that limits my playing.

I've been playing for 20 years, but buying and selling is the thing that keeps me interested. Sure, I've got a couple guitars that will never be sold, but most everything I have is on a constant in/out basis. Keeps it fresh, and lets me try new things.
