Default Anyone get a Bone saddle from Taylor?

Looking at upgrading my micarta saddle to bone and looking at this one from Tayor:

https://www.taylorguitars.com/taylor...ustic-6-string

$30 seems kind of steep for a saddle. Anyone get this one and is it different from one I can get from other sources like Bob Colossi or McNichol?

I did. I put it in my GS mini. For sh*ts and giggles I tried to drop in in my Yamaha FS800, but it didn’t fit. It works great in the mini though. I think it made it sound slightly better

It’s pretty cheap given it is the right shape to fit in Taylor bridges, the correct radius, already compensated, and worst case needs a bit of height adjustment.

I got a decent aftermarket bone saddle that was already carved and compensated for a Taylor on Amazon for closer to $15. It arrived with even density and appears to be a good saddle. You might want to try there.

I have done this several times.
I know the saddles come from China but they are good quality and you can't beat the price.
All I have had to do is to sand a little of the bottom of the new bone saddle on a couple of applications. The other two fit without any adjusting.

I dropped a Taylor bone saddle in my Big Baby along with some Taylor ebony pins. It only needed a tiny amount of width sanding away to get a snug fit. I am convinced there are sonic improvements from the micarta saddle and plastic pins.

For the small extra cost it meant I got an exact replacement and didn’t have to bother with more sanding/shaping on a non Taylor part.

No saddle comes exactly right without any sanding required, but its super easy to do.

Default New saddle

Wow, 7 replies and no one has suggested Bob Colosi yet. That must be a record.

Seriously thought, Bob's the man. Give him a try.

+1 for Bob Colosi. You know that you’re getting a quality product and it costs less than Taylor’s offering (which by the way is fairly priced). You can buy cheaper bridge saddles but you get what you pay for.

Yes I have done that that on my 518e. It worked out ok and I can put the micarta back in if I ever plug in and use the ES2 system. (If I am not mistaken, that is the reason Taylor uses Micarta on their guitars with the ES2, because it sounds better with it). I like the bone saddle.... but have never compared them while plugged in. My GS7 (cedar/rosewood) with bone nut and saddle sounds great also. I would think that it is different than other manufacturers’ bone saddle. It appears that it is machine cut to a profile that Taylor uses throughout their line of guitars... for correct and consistent intonation on a CNC made guitar.

+1 for Bob. Awesome to deal with, Ive bought bone pins from him in the past, and while I'm going to leave the saddle alone on my Taylor I'm considering putting a bone saddle and pins in my new J45.

his web address is guitarsaddles.com I believe. good luck!

FYI, the one I purchased from Taylor and dropped into the GS Mini didn’t need any shaving. It was the perfect height.
