Default Dale Fairbanks F-35

I was a bit hesitant to post about this build because of the other Fairbanks threads from the recent past. But as I got looking, the others were F-45/SJ models.

This is a F35 build based on the late '30s J-35. So I decided to post a few pics of the Fairbanks bracing for this guitar featuring 3 unscalloped tone bars.

I'm really looking forward to this guitar! Other than a couple of very small changes I requested (cosmetic), it is basically his base F-35.

A final build pic:

Very cool, a 3 tone bar F-35!

Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

Rick, We're going down the same path/same time. I had planned to maybe go up to pick it up when it's finished, but world events have pretty much canceled that idea. But it's exciting to see the guitar take shape!!

John, Can't wait to hear this guitar and compare it to my other slopes.

Dave - My trip to Burlington would be about 5 hrs. each way. I am so tempted. But Dale will be coming through my area in late July, so I guess I'll have to wait. Honestly, I'd just love to go up there to smell the wood shavings and watch the glue dry. Dale's build pictures really get me pumped.

Burlington is a great place to visit when there isn't a pandemic going on!

Bound up!
Now Dale is working on headstock veneer/logo and shaping the neck.

Stunningly beautiful.

In the age of rosettes that are (to my eyes) out of proportion to the guitar bodies on which they sit, this is a perfect rosette.

Thank you for sharing with us.

Dave - Very pretty. Is she going to get a sunburst?

I am liking the elegance of this guitar. The woods are perfect and the appointments are spot on.

Yes. I asked that the sunburst be just a little wider around the edges the most that I've seen. I sent him some pics (of his actually) that were like that.

You know, I never thought about a non sunburst F35. Something with an aging toner to it would be nice. I've seen a couple of Kopps like that. And I even had a non sunburst Kopp K35 before..... But I'll take a Fairbanks sunburst over no sunburst anytime .

The neck.. I don't think I could even watch cutting the dovetail into the body. Makes me nervous to think about it. haha. Also, I like the thin channel he does to access the truss rod. Big enough to be serviceable but not removing so much to weaken the area like a Gibson.

Yes, a guitar player after my own heart!

Dale's sunbursts are among the finest available.

You've got me thinking about that Dave - interesting thought.

OTOH, I am likely to give Dale free rein as I consider it his creation. Apparently, when Dale sprays a sunburst, he goes into a zen-like trance while channeling the spray. Tho' it could be a leaky respirator, too <LOL>. (Be assured, that DF is following this thread!)

x35

I will admit that the specs given for the F35 on his old website were perfect in my eyes. It took me about a year to go ahead with this build. I have a Collings CJ35G with 3 unscalloped tone bars and love it. So after talking to Dale months ago and his insistence on the 3 unscalloped tone bars, I was in! For me his F35 guitars have this organic vibe about them and the tone of youtube examples (very consistent mind you) have me hooked and excited to get this in my hands.

Yes, it's been a while, but progress is happening.
This session is about the neck. It's in this pic somewhere...

Dove tail into the body. A heck of a lot smoother than the one in my '44 J45!

Final fitting of the neck

Looks good to me..
