Default cases!

Hi,

I'm Doug and I'm a case lover, especially deluxe hardshell ones. Geib style TKLs, Cedar Creeks, Ameritages, Caltons, Hoffees, etc. My new Gibson L-00 Vintage came with a red line reproduction case with a purple lining that is really nice. I remember fondly when I was a kid moving up to a quality hardshell. Obviously I don't spend my playing time sniffing case linings but I like cases. It's just another part of the wonders of guitar ownership for me.

For you gig bag guys I also have an appreciation for the Reunion Blues leather soft cases.

Ok I'm weird so cut me some slack.

You’re not alone! Although I don’t haul guitars as much as I used too I still have an affinity for a nice case. Having a quality hard case makes me feel oddly reassured and happy. Weird...maybe. But I’m certain that there will be many who share our love for quality cases.

I love my hard cases! One recently sacrificed itself on a long distance airplane flight (first time I ever had to check it) and so I'm thankful for it's service. The rest of the cases remain to house and protect my babies while they're just hanging out at home. The guitars actually live in the case unless and until they're played and then it's right back to the case. So much safer.

Hi Doug

Not a case lover…I'm a case appreciator.

Without my Caltons or Cedar Creek hard cases I'd be reluctant to take my best guitars anywhere. I take my guitars everywhere I want or need to without fear of damage.

The case I got with my new Martin OMC 16-e stinks.
Every other case I have has enough room for, strap,
Strings, capo, picks, slide, tuner, cloth, etc.
This Martin case will not even close with the strap
connected to the guitar, unlike every other case I have.

For gigs, I actually pack my new Martin in my old
Gibson, LC-1 case, snug, perfect fit.

The new Martin case sits unused is in the basement, sad.

I like cases, too. I know it’s sad, but what can I say?

Case fetish here as well - but only for certain types. Calton, Lifton and Geib style top the list.

Numerous times I have seriously considered buying an empty case that I thought was cool, because someday I might have a guitar that fits it!

Heee heee hee, soo sorry but here is a little...err...

case study! Sorry again.

I drove to a friend's house to show him a new acoustic and I stopped at a stop sign and then heard: screeeeeeechhhhhhh, guy behind all wheels locked and just kiss contacted the back of the car, where the new guitar was situated, but it sounded like The End.

So next time we were going to have more guitar protection, hee hee 'just in case'. sorry.

Enter the dragon: (Hiscox cases). Here is the famous video where they all stand on their case:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0jbDM2MOxs

So I thought: "Hmmm"

And then a guitarist friend turned up at my house to show me his new Gibson Blues King L-00 which lived in a ...Hiscox. "Err uuurr ugh, is good".

Let the madness begin...

So further madness...I had 2 Maton 808s then and I noticed in the want ads that higher models came with...yep..a Hiscox case with the Maton brand on the sides! Oi de doi. I rang my local shops to buy 2...nope, don't stock them. Then I thought I would buy 2 used Matons that came in Hiscoxii??, sell the guitars and keep the cases? And then I ask a different shop and they had for me, especially for their old mad friend BK777...2 Maton branded Hiscox custom size 808 deep body cases! I was on their doorstep before they put down the phone.

And I made sure when I bought the next Maton Messiah 808 that when they asked: "Which case would you prefer with that, sir?" Ha ha ha ha ha hee: what do you think I picked?

But then .....agony, the new Taylor 717e has a fab case with it and while I could squeeze the 717e in to a Hiscox dread from a shop for full protection, I just keep admiring the Taylor case.....risking all and smashed guitar......for beauty!

Do I make a good case?

See You.

Took a look at the Calton hard case, very impressed, is it worth $1200

Default Yep

I don’t own a Collings but almost want one just to get the case. They are sleek, form fitting, and light weight. Not sure they are as protective though.

For that, Hiscox all the way. Light weight, ugly but build like a tank. And that’s the one I take places!
