1934 Martin 0-17 ($3600)
For sale is my 1934 Martin 0-17 - $3600 plus shipping from NC. SOLD
I would consider trades for any Waterloo (especially a WL-12 12 fret regular or all Mahogany) or an old Kalamazoo L-00 like guitar. My 0-17 is in incredible shape. It has a few dings and dents, some exterior superficial water damage on the lower bout sides near the end pin that looks worse in pictures than in person. I've had it looked at by a luthier who knows his stuff and he said that it has not been refinished. The interior looks like it just left the factory - no dust bunnies or anything like that. No smells either. Original tuners, replacement tuner buttons. Replacement bridge and bridge plate. The nut action is set low and very comfortable. The neck is wonderful on this guitar. It's 1 3/4" and not chunky. It's thinner than I expected when I first got it and combined with the bar frets, the setup and the overall feel makes it one of my favorite necks ever. Ebony truss rod and good neck relief and neck angle is ok. It’ll need a neck reset at some point but that’s something I’ll leave to the next owner. It looks like the neck has been off for a reset and while the neck angle isn't perfect it plays well as it is with incredible tone. The bar frets seem original and they're in great shape. The bridge slots have been filled then reslotted to help with a good break angle and to keep the string windings off the saddle. The saddle is low and probably shouldn't be lowered any more. But like I said it's very comfortable to play with fingers as well as a pick. Non original Dobro branded hardshell case included. No longer looking for a trade, only sale at this point. I'm sure I'm missing some details so please feel free to ask whatever questions you have. I can send some recordings I made with my phone to anyone interested and am happy to answer any questions. I'm located in Winston-Salem, NC, and am happy to drive a few hours to help with a transaction. Thanks for looking! I played this great little 017 this afternoon for quite a while and am stunned by the volume and thick luscious tone. Still for sale, for now.

open to trades
I'd be open to partial trades on this one. I'd consider a Kalamazoo KG-14 or the like or a Waterloo WL-12Mh.

Looks like a great guitar. The bridge plate caught my interest. Could we get more pictures from inside?

Sure thing. Here are some more... (the pics with the splinters on the bridge plate are from when I first got it - they are cleaned off now).
Let me know if you’d like any more specific photos.

Hello Chris,
I never figured to bump into you here and smiled at seeing your name and post!!! I'm going to be looking around seriously in a year or so but not just now, sorry to say. I'm looking for an older Martin in wonderful shape sometime in another year or so... Not certain just exactly which model but I have time. Selling a couple 1920's Payne bamboo's to make it happen... Hope this note finds you well and musically full-filled. Be well and good luck with this guy... Jeremy. |

1934
Since this guitar is still for sale makes me wonder if people realize how special a year 1934 was for Martin 0s and 00s among others. I have played and owned a few 14 fret 0s and 00s from 1934 to 1938 and beyond. As good as they all can be, the 34s stood out in sound every time. There are structural reasons for this.
If you have never played one from 1934 and you like 1 3/4 nuts with very lovely slim rounded V necks, this guitar could shock you with its sound and presence. I am sure it sounds a few size classes larger like mine and others I have played, and will have that special something 34s have.
