I agree with John. The arm rest backing looks really nice!
And, I am still a bit unclear on the size. It appears to be a Slope Dread? I love mine, from bro John, obviously! Whatever it is it is going to be BOSS! Paul

So here’s more progress shots for Jamie et al. Still working on the rim assembly, we installed the back reverse-kerfed linings with our special color coded clamps. Now say “color coded clamps” three times fast.
![]() Every back needs its six month dental inspection. Here I’m using a dental pick to inscribe where the back brace pockets will go while clearing the occasional plaque residue. Once this is finished, I’ll use the big drill (router) to cut away the pockets. ![]() Port Orford Cedar side braces seem to match the Port Orford top, so those are put in to line up with the back braces. The clamps make little feet to hold up the sides and little hands to shout for joy. ![]() Keeping the medical check up theme in mind...nevermind, I’m not going to describe what’s happening here. ![]() Thanks for watching.

One of the fun things about doing this build with Jamie is the collaborative process. He is adventurous yet assured in his tastes. This allows us to present different design schemes and for him to choose the path to take. I know we would all like to believe that we have that ability, but actually it’s hard for most of us to take even small risks. Jamie has courage in his blood, and so here’s a presentation of the rosette design in light of this.
We’ve started with a Guatemalan Rosewood blank. This is to complement the color choices that have been picked out so far. ![]() Then I have routed many arcs at defined radii to set up the overall scheme. ![]() Next I cut out a bunch of matching Osage Orange arcs with matching grain patterns. ![]() After purfling each segment, they are fit to length and then met with a Purpleheart wedge to close the gap. ![]() Here you get the feel of the overall design. ![]() Then I routed out the ring oversize to prep for inlaying the whole piece. ![]() We then pull out brickhenge to clamp down the ring and its needed purfling. ![]() Finally, cut out the sound hole to reveal the overall look. ![]() Thanks for following!

Hi Steve and Ryan -
Great work, I am following this one. I liked that rosette. I do have one question: what is your take on the comparison between Osage Orange and Brazilian. I recall seeing some thread that the "data" on the two woods. How does it play out in tone? Thanks!

You too, Kevin, thanks. Thanks bro, just trying to keep up with you! Thanks, Dan, much appreciated. We really do appreciate the kind remarks. I drew the design you see and told Ryan "Figure out how to do that, and make it work". He did. We're plunging off into unchartered waters for us and thus are particularly grateful for the kind reception. Steve
