What is the problem the wrist would help for you?

for me, only at night when carpal flares up.. never while playing. not sure how that would work

If you’re still sore, see a doctor and get a wrist brace. If it was just a brief episode and you’re no longer feeling sore, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Don't need a doctor to walk into Walmart and buy a brace.

I've developed mild-to-moderate carpal tunnel in my left hand in the last several months, so I've been wearing a brace during almost all activity except for when I'm playing guitar. I started seeing an acupuncturist, so we'll see if that helps (there's actually some good evidence behind acupuncture).

As I get older (just turned 67) my wrists and thumbs ache more than they used to if I use tools too much, play guitar a lot, etc. -- Have spoken with doc about this in the past and he just said rest and wrist/thumb supports as needed. When mine flares up I just use something like this (see link) when I play guitar and it helps me a lot.

All the best,

Cheers!

I was told by doctor that these would help so I got a pair. She is a cellist and uses them on both wrists. They help when I need it. I also went to a licensed massage therapist who worked on my wrists and shoulder for 6 weeks. That made a night and day difference. Need the braces less and less.

Goodmluck.

I have had wrist and shoulder pain issues in the past and going to smaller bodied guitars with slightly shorter scale lengths made a huge difference for me. Long playing sessions would cause flare ups, but no longer a problem. A side benefit of going with a more ergonomic size is that I learned that I much prefer the tone of smaller mahogany bodied guitars.

I just got one from my hand doc. Terrible arthritis in my left hand. Got bad enough to see a specialist. He shot some steroids in there (didn't help that much unfortunately) and gave me a brace to wear. I think the brace might be causing some of the pain actually.

I'd take a couple/few days off from playing and let that heal. After it heals go to a sporting goods store and ask about very light weights for "wrist curls" just for toning.

PM Fitness1 and he might be able to help

I do small warm up exercises and if i feel a little pain i use voltaren gel https://www.voltarengel.com/what-is-voltaren/. If pain is really bad i use a wristbrace as a supplement and leave guitars alone for a couple of days

I have arthritis in my right hand, at the base if my thumb. After playing for long periods it can pain me some, but mine is more caused by more strenuous work earlier in the day than fingerstyle guitar in the evening. My wrist support helps just leaving it on all the time.
