Default New Wilborn build/Nautilus style/Braz-Adi

Very cool!

It is the first time I’ve used anything other than black ebony. This is actually Macassar ebony. But, all of a sudden grain alignment is a consideration. The soundport is bound in several pieces that have to be convinced to work together to simulate oneness. I’m pretty happy with this one, but I don’t think I’ll ever try it with maple....

Gorgeous indeed. The wood choices on this guitar are superb. That Macassar binding is just amazing...can't wait to see it pop under finish ...a site to behold. Not to mention, Ben absolutely does the cleanest miters I've ever seen. I agree that this will be a canon, and yet I'd bet it will sparkle with the softest touch. This has been fun to follow.

Wow Brad, Ben this is absolutely stunning - and Ben's miters are perfection. He is the "Master Miter Man"

Default Thanks

Thanks so much.. The picking of the woods on this one was really fun, and actually took longer than you would think. But I was ok with that. I traditionally have a hard time make decisions. And now Ben is fully aware of this affliction as well..

I'm following along quietly on this thread, being a fan of both Ben's work and of Frog and Toad. I can't wait to hear this on its own and in a duo. It's quite a combination of engineering and art.

Superb workmanship! What a hoss! Won't be a frog left on the lily pads when Brad picks this on up.

Great update on Frogtars neck process:

The victim, pre hand carved.....

Establishing the profile at the first fret.

Tapering in the headstock.

Bringing the shaft into profile with a series of facets.

The operating theater

And completed!

The stacked heel. Note the nice crisp delineation. I love a crisp line among soft transitions.

Thanks for looking!!

Same here. I spent a couple of hours with Blue Boy last week at BGS and it was a special guitar. I went into it thinking that it would be different but that it may not sound “like a guitar” and my fears turned out to be completely unfounded. Not only did it sound like a guitar, but it played, responded, and sounded like a GREAT guitar. I couldn’t put it down...in a room full of great guitars.

Holy cow! Just...holy cow......
The most amazing detail is that wee strip of spruce still intact.
And we get to say, "Yeah, I know the guy that built that!"
Good stuff F & T,

Steve

Holy Cow is right Steve. Well said

Yes, how does that pointy piece of spruce not end up lost on the shop floor somewhere.

Hats off to you Ben for another Amazing build - can't wait to hear this one.
