Default The Black Keys build

I'm building a guitar for THE BLACK KEYS. The. Black. Keys. You might have seen them perform and win three grammys last night. How this came about: 7 years ago I went to my first of eight Keys concerts, which was masterminded by a friend. The van got stolen, the cops picked us up from the venue lights blazing, we started the van with a screwdriver and got blown away at the show. Last summer I toured to Colorado and opened up for a band of older people who sang songs about physics. The lady is Dan Auerbach's (the singer) aunt. I told her about the guitars after another friend found a video of him playing a resonator. And then HE E-MAILED ME. As in, I could totally say, 'Hey Dan, I'm in Akron, OH want to grab a beer?" He would refuse me, but I can still ask.

I've got the neck and body assembled, but will be in Chicago all this week. I apologize for my over-excitement. But I am over-excited.

That's great Matt, I was thinking today about how I want you to build me a lefty version but I have to wait awhile yet. Well Done!

Lefty models are an easy mod with these. I'll probably cut a few biscuits backwards (I make them so I can compensate them), and then cut the nut backwards and throw something. That's all. Ha! Really though, it's a simple thing to do.

Default huh?

So you used a screwdriver, stole a van, went to the Black Keys show and got arrested by the cops at the show?

I don't think he's trying to embellish your story... I think he's just confused about what actually happened. So am I

Who stole whose van? Which guitars did you tell the aunt about? The ones that were in the van? Did those get stolen too? If you didn't steal the van, why did the cops pick you up? Why are you building a guitar for them? I'm assuming that they asked you, because that's not part of the story.

I'm not trying to be overly critical. I'm often incomprehensible when I'm excited...and also when I'm not excited.

Default sweeet

This is just great news. Im 38 and have one foot still in analogy rock aesthetic.

Love their latest album and cant wait for more of their stuff. Making a guitar for Dan sounds like quite the challenge! I live in Denver and saw them maybe 10 years ago in Boulder, and dude, it was the strangest experience!

Of course, they rocked faces off - but I am trying to talk to some girl and was probably trying to impress her. Anyway, I totally lied and said "did you see the drummer, he was hitting the snare with a tambourine instead of sticks" Well, not long after this, I look up and HE ACTUALLY WAS NOW DOING JUST THAT!

I am not making this up! So maybe I channeled my lie right into being a truth!
Later..she also tried to impress me with a story of living in a shed - typical rich hippy stuff, but still - that night was trippy!

Yesterday I picked up a hard to find metal working tool called a ring and circle shear and have a vertical edge sander coming from TN on Sunday, and those things will help a great deal.

I went on tour last summer to Fort Collins/Boulder. I literally almost didnt come back. I love it there. The people were amazing.
