Default Honest opinions about Taylor's 32X Series

I've always thought, since the first time I saw them, they were the prettiest "traditional" acoustics, I've seen. Recently got me a brand new 322ce 12-fret and has become one of two main axes playing at church (the other is my Folklore, and both 12-frettes); but what do you really think about the series?

I previously owned a 322, a 324 and a 327 - they were really nice guitars and the exceptions that disproved the common belief about Taylors being "too bright"...

I prefer the 524 over the 32X models I've played. That said, I wouldn't turn away from the 324. I don't particularly care for anything smaller than that, though, and that has gone for any of the X22 models I have played.

I have had my 322e 12 fret for over four years and absolutely love everything about it. Its (non typical Taylor) tone, ease of play, body size… everything just works well for me. I have been thinking about selling to help finance a H&D 00, but that will be a difficult decision to make.

Next to my Huss and Dalton 000 12 fret, the Taylor gets a good amount of play time.

Had a 324ce for a while. Loved the sound and playability. Nice warm tone, contrary to the usual brightness people associate with Taylors. But it was just a bit big for me. So I sold it and ended up with a 522 12-fret. Same warm tone, but much more comfortable to me. I would think the 322 would be as well, but haven't played one.

I had a 324e that was X Braced and I loved the tone on that thing. Really warm without being muddy and had a great thump to it. I tried a V Braced version of the same guitar and it was like all of the life had been sucked out of it. It lost everything that I liked about the X Braced version.

My 327e was the best of five 32x series I tried (a 322 slothead, two 324's and two 327's), head to head, at Martin Music in Memphis last January. Also being considered was a Larrivee Tommy Emmanuel which was also a killer guitar.

It's a tremendous guitar, warm and woody but with clarity and the combination of mahogany/Taz Blackwood gives it a very wide dynamic range. Quiet fingerstyle up through heavy strumming and flatpicking all holds up very well.

Action is great up the neck and intonation is very good. I like the look and vibe and really don't have a negative other than I'm not a huge fan of the fake tooled leather look of the case, which is otherwise a high quality case.

I like my 324 CE. Good amplified sound, great looks, the fretboard is a tad flatter than I like, other than that plays like butter. Acoustically I always want it to be louder (like my Eastman) and hit it harder, it just compresses. It's kind of my Zen Master guitar. Patience grasshopper.

A 322 was one of the only Taylors I considered buying. Pretty sweet guitar. I ended up with a 00 15 Custom 12 fret Martin.

In general, I don't care for the Taylor neck. I think of Taylors as a middle of the road do everything well, if not outstanding guitars. I heard about eight of them back to back at and open mic recently. They ran the gamut between 200 and 400 series, all had cutaways and electronics. All sounded pretty much the same, with the signature Taylor brightness. All did what they were supposed to do.

A friend has a Taylor he takes everywhere, because it works in every variety of situation. That alone keeps him playing it, but other guitars he owns sound better. But they are just useful, and isn't that reason enough to have one?

I have a 322 (mahogany top) 14 fret non-cutaway with no Taylor electronics. I have a K&K Pure Mini transducer installed and it sounds great either acoustically or amplified.

It's a superb guitar in every sense of the word.

Just to clarify: every 32X guitar has a mahogany top. And yes, those are superb!

The X braced 324e is what made me a Taylor owner. Something special about the Mahogany/Tasmanian Blackwood pairing. Definitely has it's own voice among my Guilds, Martin, Larrivee, Breedlove and Eastmans.

Default Honest opinions about Taylor's 32X Series

I would like a 321ce (GT with Hog / Blackwood) to replace my 324 and open up the full size slot for something new. I think that would make a real interesting guitar that's very handy.

I like the 32x wood pairing alot but lately I've been looking for something different in a bigger body size, like an OM depth SJ200 spruce / maple. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and build that too, since it doesnt really fit the description any production model.

I recently tried out one of those new 326ce's with the soundport over at Tobias. It was real..."smooth" is the word that comes to mind. I really liked it, but a tad out of my price range at the moment.
