Oh yes! And hopefully harvested by naked virgins painted blue…

Yes. I think 12 feet necks need some sort of a cutaway so that is the plan

I'm liking the train tunnel Redwood too. With that, we won't have to wait for the wood to dry and acclimate, because the trees were harvested 140-plus years ago. It's probably pretty close to ready to build with by now.

Having sampled a bear claw Sitka from the Kinnairds, I have to vote for that. The fat and super bright trebles are to die for.
Can't imagine how good they will be with a twelve foot neck!

Thanks all for the participation thus far. I failed to post some pics of the tops, so let me make amends. This will better inform your choices perhaps?
First up, a piece of silky white Engelmann: IMG_1632492713.483870.jpg Next, some shaken-not-stirred Tunnel 14 redwood: IMG_1632492763.742637.jpg Third we have some Sitka that barely survived the assault of an angry bear: IMG_1632492810.586264.jpg And finally some spruce from Italy. Rumor has it that Stradivari carved his initials in this tree, but forgot where it stood and thus never had the opportunity to use it. Pity… just think how famous he could have been. But here is YOUR opportunity: IMG_1632492898.160887.jpg Let us know, Steve Last edited by Steve Kinnaird; 09-24-2021 at 08:24 AM. |

Steve, it just occurred to me, have we seen a picture of the Cocobolo being used for the back, I went back through the thread and did not see it if it were there? We should see that before picking a top I think?

On the winter solstice in Switzerland I don't think they'd need to be painted to be blue. I'm opting for the summer solstice

Ok Tom, here is the back/side set we have chosen: IMG_1632537840.705584.jpg IMG_1632537960.320877.jpg You can see that 1) if we swing the joint line as in the pic, we still have enough material for a straight-grained presentation; 2) it is really well quartered; 3) there are some black ink lines in the set, particularly in the sides. Hope this helps visualize, Steve |

Ok, after seeing that, I vote Tunnel 14 redwood.

Tunnel 14 Redwood with this Cocobolo will make a great combination!
