I am assuming you did some sort of aural assessment when you chose the guitars listed in your signature (Gibson J-45 True Vintage, Blueridge BR-160-12, Art & Lutherie Roadhouse, Gibson Les Paul Traditional, Fender FSR Deluxe Ash Telecaster).

I'm a firm believer in "aural assessments".
As an example, I can listen to my Eastman E 20 D and using the aural assessment method, I can tell you it is 92.3% the equivalent of a D28 tonewise.

The Tone Quantifier is fantastic, especially when you engage the Price to Tone ratio setting. I chose my last three guitar with mine! Amazon packages the Tone Quantifier with the new Tone Enhancer for $179.99. And don't forget free 2 day shipping if you are a Prime member.

I was being facetious. I see comments all the time about a guitar having "a lot of tone", which tells me exactly zero about how it sounds. I guess the translation is that the guitar sounds good to that person. As you mentioned, it really is a qualitative thing.

Wow! Great looking guitar. Way to go.
Personally and for that guitar, Martin Retros or Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze.
Otherwise, I guess the PB's. Try the others down the road.

Wow

Great looking guitar! Second vote for the Ernie Ball AB strings. They work really well with my two all-mahogany guitars.

I have an E10OOm myself (and strangely enough, I have a sound hole pick up in mine too).

On mine I like 80/20 strings, they seem to bring just a little bit of harmonics on an otherwise very fundamental tone.

Thanks everyone! I'm keeping a list of brands and types I tried on various guitars, so that maybe I’ll settle on a favorite for each guitar and stop buying them randomly.

Will try the EBs next.

Default Love My New Eastman E8OM

I love my new E8OM. Looks beautiful—great build and finish. Sounds wonderful—warm, full, loud, with excellent sustain. Great value—a hand made guitar for under $1K—amazing.

I really recommend looking at Eastman's Traditional Series guitars if you seek a Standard Series Martin-like guitar at a Martin X Series-like price.

While I don't think my new Eastman sounds like either of my older Martins, it has a beautiful, distinctive voice of its own… and who knows how it will sound in a few years.

Here are some pictures (Sorry, I couldn't figure out how to post the actual photos as opposed to the Flikr links).

Anybody here using an e15ss?

I'm still LOVING my e10om, just find myself staring longingly at that LG2 body shape...
