If you like the triangles, try a medium or heavy Fender Tru Shell. No flex. Warm.
Casein make up.

You will have to research pick thickness. They are not the thick picks you might expect.

As mentioned, the Primetone, to me, seem a little stiffer, though it's possible the bevel impacts the feel. (I used the .73 Ultex for years on electric, and recently got some of the Primetones in a lot of sizes and gauges to try.)

The nice thing about the Primetones is that there are some other gauges. I've got some .88s (351 shape) that might be something to try. I'm pretty much entirely acoustic these days and am using a 1.4 Primetone triangle currently. I really like those picks, especially the ones with raised logo/lettering so they don't slip around at all.

I just got some Ultex Tri's in .73 and while they sound fine, and louder as expected, they do flex more than I'm comfortably with. Perhaps in time I can adjust to it. But anyway, my question, is there a common pick material that would be stiffer than Ultex at the same .73 or so thickness?
Hi Hateful,
Both the Tortex and Ultex 1.14, as supplied are pretty dead, but with proper finishing and bevelling can become far more superior pick!

Two tired brains comparing notes. That'll get us far.

Yes, to clarify, fellow AGRers, the tAd stands for triangle in the BC nomenclature, as the two addled brains here have agreed.

Jay, between us I'd gather we ALMOST make a whole brain.

I have heard Charles is tone-deaf, but I'm sure it's just a nasty rumor.

Most acoustic players start thinner but gradually play thicker picks. My ideal range these days is 1.15-1.50 mm. Above 1.50 mm, I become all thumbs.

Yep.

And I'm stopping at 1.0.

Probably......

I really like Tusq picks by Graphtech. They come in several thicknesses and shapes, and impart a full-bodied, warm tone.

I wanted to add something to this discussion that I very recently discovered. Just as an experiment, I sanded down a casein teardrop pick all the way down to .60 mm. I've been amazed. It gives all the rigidity of a thick pick, but with that amazing casein tone.

Important Note: A casein pick this thin WILL eventually break, and it did. But I played it for months and it was really extraordinary. Most picks this thin would be very flexible, almost floppy. Not so the casein, which is like bone.

Anyway, passing it along.

Bizarre, I know.

Pickboy edge carbon nylon. The .88 is my favorite, but the .75 is good too. Feels much tighter than the gauge would suggest.

Another vote for Primetone’s.
The Dunlop Flow 0.73’s are also similar, though a little smaller.

Cool Picks "Ultra Cool" mediums are 0.80 and very rigid. Great tone. Unfortunately they wear out very fast.
