Default Jock O'Hazeldean - Arr: Doug Young

Hi all

Please find my version of Doug's arrangement of Jock O'Hazeldean from his great book of tab from "Closing time"

Played on my Furch OM24 SR with Newtone Masterclass (med) strings and recorded into a Scarlett 2i2 via two AT2020 mics and then mixed in Auria IOS.

There are some great tunes in this book and the intro to each piece with notes on the tuning and playing tips is really helpful. Of course Doug then sets the standard with his recordings and video's on youtube, which are a hard act to follow..

Anyway, I hope you like it and any comments or feedback welcome as always.

Very nice indeed, lovely sound and flow to the music. This piece lends itself to many different arrangements - I do like this one!

Good job. My only suggestion would be to try to reduce the number and volume of the string squeaks.

I knew you’d spot that ( as did) ;-)

I only really heard it when listening back, and then watched Doug carefully lift off to avoid it...

Hi Wrighty!

I know this song well, since I have listened to Doug Young's "Closing Time" CD about a million times. Also, one of my daughters used to play her own arrangement of this song on the Celtic harp. I have learned to love this song! Very nice job on this! Wonderful expression! I really enjoyed that!

Thanks Barry, I worked hard on getting the recording to sound better and used some acoustic panels (per Fran Guidry’s recommendation) to warm things up.

I also recorded a version on the Avalon for comparison purposes..

I’m really conscious of the string squeaks on this - going to re-record it with less finger noise!

For anybody interested, here is a re-recorded version with less string noise and using the Avalon for a change (also Focusrite)
